She is a textbook soldier, her Junctions perfect, her spells just so. To watch Rinoa stumble about with Siren in her head and unfamiliar magic laced in her veins should not give her as much pleasure as it does--Quistis doesn't really want Squall, anyway. Not even his approval, because she knows she's exceptional at what she does.
Quistis doesn't feel the pride that she should, though, because he's too caught up in her, the little bumbling idiot girl from Timber with the big eyes and brown hair. It is only when, in annoyance, a flick of Save the Queen takes down a monster that Rinoa got a bit too close to, that Squall glances over at her, nods a thank you, and the flush of pride swells in her chest, that Quistis realizes that she takes a a certain amount of glee in besting Rinoa. She is SeeD, she is the elite, she is the better woman.
It doesn't bother her at all, she observes, to think that way about herself in comparison to Rinoa.
That realization doesn't bother her much, either.
