Thanksgiving, Part I (And PANTS)

Nov 23, 2005 04:03

I had an exam in CPSC 231 Monday morning, pretty sure I did well on it. That was the end of my week at school. I'm about to ramble about pants for two paragraphs.

My step brother (Mendel) is getting married Wednesday afternoon. I went to S&K's Menswear Monday night when I got back to North Myrtle Beach to get some dress pants that fit. This was also a good oppurtunity to get a blazer that fits, and pick up a few new ties because I don't have enough of those already. For those who don't know, I'm a little bit taller than the average American. I'm also a little bit thinner. Clothing makers are painfully aware of what is average, so I never find anything that fits. S&K apparently doesn't finish their pants until you ask them to so you can get whatever length you want. Brilliant. When I'm shopping for pants, I usually look for 30x36's. I never find any, so I look for 32x36's. I usually don't find those either, so I look for 32x34's. The extra few inches in the waist means I can wear them low without too much worry of them falling off completely, but will stay low enough to compensate for the missing two inches in length. This sucks and doesn't really work, but it's the best I can do without having to special order or custom fit every pair of pants. (Okay, I have one pair of 32x36's and one pair of 32x34's that are either marked incorrectly or using some unit of measurement just slightly greater than 1 inch.)

The smallest waist size they have is 32. Like I said, I usually try to find 30's, my actual waist size is 26.5 inches. I grab a pair of 32's and take them to the changing room. With all the extra material at the end of the pants that will let you fit almost any length... I have about an inch of fabric I need hemmed. Cutting it close, but I took them to a tailor today and will have a pair of pants that I can wear at my waist and not show an inch of leg above my ankles. I don't usually get excited about clothing or shopping and what not, but pants that are long enough... This is a big deal for me.

Done Talking About Pants

So I get back from the tailor and swing by the high school to drop off a note for my brother. I swing in and talk to Mr. Moore and Ms. Tomko because they're still cool and run into Andrew and Justin. I trimmed up my mustache as it was getting long enough to eat again and Karen came over. I got to hang out with her a bit and then it was off to Ruzy's for 10th Style with he and SGX, then Thanksgiving dinner with Ruzy's family, SGX, Karen and a friend of Ruzy's parents. Played some Mario Party and watched some Family Guy after dinner. Karen wasn't feeling well and I had to get her back here so she could go home and get some sleep before school in the morning.

When I came inside I saw that my cousin Kelly was here from Pennsylvania. I talked to her, Chris, Tara and Mom for awhile before everyone started going to bed. It's always cool to see Kelly, very glad she'll be in town for a few days.

Karen and I, and I'm looking sharp. 8)

I AM HUGE!

Kelly's eyes couldn't be any more open, and I blinked. What are the odds?
