Theatrical Muse 353, Barren

They called it, “The Barren”. I could never see why. To me it was like any other part of the area outside town - but before I had the visions I seem to have had the psychic sensitivity of a brick. Well, I didn’t believe in that kind of thing at all.

Some people hated it. They said there was a feel to it, as if something was watching them. A tingling between the shoulder-blades, you know the way some people get when there’s a rat in the walls? They didn’t usually mind it so much when they were going toward it. It was when they were going away.

Something … watching.

At this point I don’t doubt that there are things we don’t understand. Things we don’t see properly. Once I was checking on the place I heard that reaction from too many people to doubt it was real - well, real in a way, you know?

If I took the case I was going to have to go in there. I don’t have the visions about things affecting myself. I can’t will them, either. I just get them when the powers send them.

What I can’t work out is, if I don’t get that creepy feeling does it mean I’m not at risk there? Or does it mean that I can’t tell when the whatever it is starts watching me?
