Three sentences about 2017-03-18

A Quentin-ful day today! I slept in a bit, and then got up to wrangle the kids off to futsal and shotokan. Q had a good time at futsal, and Junie read happily by herself; my enjoyment was tempered by my coffee thermos getting knocked over twice, to no great damage other than annoyance and slightly coffee-soaked clothes. At shotokan, Q and I played together on the tablet pretty much the whole time: Backgammon, where we switch sides after one of us (aka "me") bears off our first piece, often leading to a somewhat close game; chess, where he enjoys moving the pieces around but really has no idea what he's doing and sometimes gets frustrated when I capture all his guys; and Draw Something, which we hadn't played in months, but enjoyed, including Q doing a bit of the drawing, which is cool. Home for lunch after that, and then a friend (B) of Junie's came over for an afternoon playdate, while Q and I played Star Wars and maybe a game of BRAWL in here. Then he and I were off to a preschool friend's birthday party, at Exxcel Gymnastics And Climbing, where a staff of experienced kid wranglers wrangled the kids through various running, jumping, swinging, and otherwise cavorting type activities, followed by pizza and cake. Home after that, where Amy was still feeling quite under the weather, so I got the kids through baths and toothbrushing, and we then started Wee Free Men (me reading to them), which is probably a little advanced for Junie, and thus probably significantly too advanced for Q, but the first two scenes went well: They enjoyed listening, had some questions as I went, and I then did a recap summary type thing afterwards to help clarify what was going on. We'll see if that continues to work, but I'm hoping it will.

Finally, in humorous gaming news, my most lopsided result in solo Ticket To Ride (at least that I can remember): I beat the two computer players on the Nordic map by a score of 131 - 29 - 28.

...and then I stayed up way too late catching up on work, but I got some very good stuff done, and am very close to being done with the last of the yaks that have been keeping me from the April Project, so that's all right.
