A picture of the current status of R.I.B., for those of you playing along at home:
2 more rows until I'm almost done. (Gotta love that overly optimistic language, eh?) 2 more rows until I start on the next phase of the top, and then am left with "only" the sleeves.
Behind the cut are some knitting options to ponder for the future. (Warning, the only picture of actual knitting is the one above. The rest is yarn and pictures from books/magazines. It's mostly me rambling on and obsessing about yarn and projects that haven't been started yet, so read at your own risk.)
I was going to work on a fair isle vest when I finished A's sweater (R.I.B.). Here is a picture of what the vest will look like (we hope):
And here is the lovely yarn, as that is prettier to look at than a low quality photo of a medium quality photo:
It's Shetland jumper weight (J&S), and I loved the rustic feel of it and how some of the colors are slightly heathered. This is also a chance for me to really get over my fear of combining colors that my gut tells me might not look good together. I'm a chicken when it comes to combining colors, and this will be a great experience to try to break out of that. Not that I chose the colors (got the kit straight from Schoolhouse Press), but it will still be helpful.
That is a scary project, though. It's a kind of scary I want to take on, but the chances of failure at the beginning are high, meaning the chances that I'll have to frog and start again at least once are high. It may be frustrating. I want to do it, and I want to get more comfortable with fair isle, but I'll need to be in the right mood to really jump in to this one. I'm tempted to do it right away, as I'm in the mood for it this week. Who knows if that mood will stay.
The other big project option is
Rogue, using the yarn below (framed between the plant and the ginormous rubber duckie!):
The good thing about this project is that it will be relatively easier for me. Unfortunately, I'm working on an aran now, so I may not be in the mood for more cables and large pieces of stockinette. But another pro for this sweater is that I have tons of that yarn, and knitting it earlier rather than later would help empty out some of my yarn drawers. Of course, I ordered more than I needed, and the shop generously rounded up and sent me even more than I ordered, so I'd then be left with a decision about what to do with the leftovers. (It's doesn't felt, so the easy answer of incorporating it into the cat beds I'm thinking of making with my other scraps is not feasible.)
And then we have socks. I want to get another pair going, and am thinking about the Go With The Flow socks from the latest IK. But what color to use? 2 options:
I love the orange of the sock in the photo, but my orange is much less subtle and much more Fisher Price than their orange. I think I prefer the green, but I was thinking of using that green, combined with some leftover sock yarn, to make a green sock with rainbowish heels and toes:
Too many options. Now to eat my tots and get back to work...
