You bring light in

I just got back from traveling for the first two days of the work week. I actually stayed right next to the mall of America and this big huge Ikea but I never ended up going to either. I was pretty tired every time I came back to my hotel. I was visiting a supplier as part of managing a capacity issue between our company and theirs. It is a pretty big deal, if we can’t stay on the original timing, stuff is going to go down.

Actually I don’t really. But I have been working on plastic resins for the past week and it hasn’t been fun. We use a lot of interesting additives and such for some of our colored components.

Anyways, I should probably mention what happened when I was leaving Minneapolis this past Tuesday. My original departure time was a little after 4pm CT, so 5 for me. We didn’t leave until 8pm CT. It was snowing like crazy in Cincinnati so the flights were already backed up. Then our plane got deiced, but then since all of the flights were waiting to take off, they had to go back and get deiced again. I was complaining about sitting in a terminal for an extra 4 hours, but imagine the people that were stuck on the plane for about 3 hours.

Then, after being delayed 4 times, this drunk passenger was flipping out. She was a spring break person, trying to get to Myrtle Beach to be with friends. She had spent most of our 4 hour delay getting decently sloshed. She could hardly stand upright. All she had to do was get on the plane. But no, she went up to the gate attendant and asked why we weren’t boarding yet and blah blah blah. Anyways, they had to restrain her after they told her she couldn’t board the plane because she was so intoxicated. Mind you, this girl is my age, looks like she belongs on a beach and is slurring her words sooo bad. She got angry when they told her she wouldn’t make her connecting flight and that she was going to have to change her reservations at a cost of $200.00.

So…lesson of the day: Don’t get hammered before a plane ride, even if you are doing it because you don’t like flying. She would have probably gotten sick on the flight. I wouldn’t have been able to handle someone puking the whole time.

But I got home. But then there was 6 inches of snow on my car, and under than, ½ inch of ice. Brilliant. The municipal governments around here still haven’t figured out what a snow plow is either. It took me an hour to get home.

On to more news about my sister….she had her echocardiogram the other day. I guess her heart is weaker than they originally thought, so they will have to have her on a lung and heart machine during the surgery. Kind of scary. I think she is pretty mad about it. They have her going to pulmonary rehab, they make her exercise, something she hates. Maybe it will give her strength or something?

My coworker suggested that maybe I use our assistance program since no one in my family opted to go to counseling about any of this stuff. I am thinking about, although I don’t want to think that I am going to a shrink or something. Honestly, there’s really no one for me to talk to about it. And I can’t be all depressed when my sister talks to me about it, but its really hard. Even though no one wants to think about, at some point my family or me needs to start thinking about what happens if something does go wrong.

I don’t want to be a pessimist at the same time though. I haven’t talked to my family about it at all, I sort of want to keep it to myself. I did talk to Conor about it, and he thinks it might be a good idea. I feel bad for constantly talking to him about it and being all depressed. Actually last week really sucked because I found out a lot about what my sister will have to go through and I was pretty much upset every night last week.

This weekend is Conor’s birthday. I am so bad, I have not bought him anything yet. I am planning on buying him a couple movies, and a V for Vendetta poster. Its this one in particular that looks pretty old school, and he likes those kinds of posters. We are also going to go see it tomorrow evening when I drive up from Cincinnati. Maybe if I take a half day I can drive up and find him what I am hoping to buy. He told me not to buy him anything, but my mom says the same thing and then complains when I don’t. I think I outdid myself when I bought him the iPod remote system for Valentine’s Day. I should have waited.

His parents are driving up to Lansing to have dinner with us on Saturday. His birthday is actually on Sunday, but I have to drive back to Cincinnati in the afternoon. I have to fly to Syracuse on Monday and then drive to Canada to go to one of our plants. I hope its not a huge snowstorm or something.

Well, I hope everyone is having a nice week.
