Relatedly: I’m embarrassed to admit how much I enjoy watching Michael Aranda’s iPhone vlogs of him, Charlie and Alex doing incredibly banal things (jogging, grocery shopping, visiting the post office). *chinhands* I find it stupidly endearing the way Michael prefaces the vlogs with, “Alex, I’m vlogging”. I like to imagine that when they’re having sex, Michael likes to startle Alex by saying, “Alex, I’m vlogging… just kidding.” Ahem.

It’s so tedious when a band enter a competition that just involves their fans voting for them over and over again. Shouldn’t competitions be based on talent? Or, if they’re based on popularity (like prom queen, class president), shouldn’t you just vote once? Ugh. All that said, go and vote for Empires to be on the cover of Rolling Stone by selecting all 5 stars on this page (which you can do every day).
I like Empires enough to swallow my competition-based irritation, because I want them to be famous, dammit. I want them to sell records and I want them to tour the UK. This sweet little acoustic pop-rock ditty about a heartfelt desire to have rough sex is literally one of my favourite songs of the past year. It’s gorgeous:

Gymnastics: It’s the European Championships this weekend! Not that you’d necessarily know that in the UK, since the BBC isn’t showing its coverage until next weekend. Oh, well. I read a press release about the GB team and it included a quote from Beth Tweddle that I’ll paraphrase for you: “I’m gonna go to Europeans and chuck a whole bunch of new skills and probably lose both my titles.” She’s focused on the Olympics next year rather than this season, but still… sad. :(
Figure Skating: I’d basically come to terms with Worlds being cancelled, so a rescheduling feels like an unexpected blessing. \o/ I still only care about Pairs (Trankov/Volosozhar to win!) and Ice Dance, though. Is it too much to hope that an extra month of training might give Virtue/Moir a better chance? *bites nails* Oh, Davis/White probably deserve the title, but Virtue/Moir are my faaavourites.
