stalking Shawn Johnson, Being Erica, Community

Apparently the BBC is following a number of gymnasts in the run up to 2012, but at the moment they mostly just seem to be stalking Shawn Johnson. See: Inside Shawn Johnson's basement (haters to the left; I think Shawn is adorable. I'd drink soda from her face.)

(Note to the BBC: you'd better give me good coverage of the gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games and Worlds next month, or I will cut a bitch.)

Some TV thoughts. Fair warning: I am negative nelly today, apparently.

I wasn't really feeling the season premiere of Being Erica. I like the group therapy thing (and the potential for travelling back to other people's pasts), but I found Irish Dude rather cliched and uninteresting. Also, didn't this show used to be a dramedy? What happened to the -edy? I know it's a show about therapy, but I'm kind of sick of "hug and cry, learn and grow".

I don't want to sound like one of Those Fans, but I really miss Ethan. And Kai. And this show having hot guys.

At this point, I literally cannot view the show through any lens other than ERICA/DR TOM 4LYFE, and it's... distracting. "I wanted to think that I was the only one"? Really? If they're going to go there, they should just... go there.

I've said before that there's unfortunately a huge gap in quality between the good episodes of Community and the not-good episodes of Community. IMO, this was a not-good one.

The show itself kind of summed it up: the best part of the episode was supposed to be Betty White drinking piss. Really? :|

Also, I wish the writers would stop acting like Jeff making out with Annie is on par with CHILD RAPE. 19-year-old women date 30something guys every day. Are age-gap relationships fraught with complexities, both real and imposed by society? Yes. Could these complexities be mined for a thoughtful and funny storyline? Yes.

Does the Jeff/Annie relationship look likely to approach anything close to nuanced, thoughtful or funny? Nup.

And finally. I posted these on my tumblr, but I'm linking them here, too, because they are aces:

As part of a project appealing to gay teens not to commit suicide, Dan Savage and his partner, Terry talk about... their high school experiences, how they met (!!! already know this story from Dan’s memoirs, but their retelling is hilarious) and their happiest memories. A must-watch.

Funny Or Die's spoof of a new CW show, All That Glitters straddles the line between satire and... the kind of shows that are probably pitched every day. o__O
