Panic! At the Disco rant
Pet peeeeve (and the reason that I can't even remember the last Panique fic I read? mayhaps!): when writers simply edit out Brent Wilson's existence. Not even just from the band's history, but from the world. *boggles*
There was no ickle!Ryan and ickle!Spencer growing up together in Vegas and deciding to start a band. There was ickle!Ryan, ickle!Spencer and ickle!Brent. Your fiction is FACTUALLY INACCURATE if you just conveniently forget about Brent. (We could argue about how important fact is in RPS, but personally I don't see the point in writing RPS that isn't as factually accurate as possible. Otherwise you're just writing original fiction about some dude who bears a passing physical resemblance to Ryan Ross.)
Worse still, is when writers bash Brent in their fic (diminish his significance; portray him poorly). What the fuck is your issue? Brent is a guy who formed a band with his friends. That's it. His only crime (and even that's debatable) is not being able to play the bass particularly well. You can fanwank it any way you like, but the fact is, it was a SHITTY act, kicking Brent out. Maybe they created a better band as a result (although, is Jon Walker really the second coming of Christ on the bass guitar? is he really? *eyeroll*), but nonetheless, fucking over your childhood best friend like that is... not a very nice thing to do.
(Pre-emptively: "it makes me uncomfortable" is not an excuse for editing Brent out. It's the reality of your favourite band that's making you uncomfortable. Just like the fact that Ryan dated Jac and has replaced her with a softcore porn star, the facts about Brent is something that you're gonna have to suck up.)
