A little bit of everything

Ultimately, I had to return to the shore house at some point, weather be damned. I only wish it hadn't rained quite so much on Friday as my place of work is notorious for flooding (as entire sections of road are frequently lower than sea level and just a few hundred yards away from said sea), and since my little off-road jaunt last year, a spin on the sand was not particularly what I had in mind. So instead, I had to pull into the menacing "ranger's station" and wait out the worst of the pounding rain before continuing northward.

Montreal is the same as always, except maybe not quite so cold as each day brought sun and temperatures well over 75. My grandmother has not changed at all and still insists on feeding me and feeding me. I'm starting to believe that it's not so much that she wants to feed me, so much as she wants her tomatoes (she had about 24 of them bought for about 59 cents a pound) to be eaten. I don't even like tomatoes. I put them in an omlette anyway and when the time came to eat the omlette, I picked out the tomatoes when no one was looking. They make me break out. I don't even like omlettes all that much.

Tomorrow it's back to the lab for a busy week. Tomorrow I take my qualifying safety tests for boating, lab safety, and IT safety. Wednesday is prep-work, more reading and the retirement barbecue for Mike Fahay (more on that to come later this week, I'm sure), and on thursday, a reporter from the NY Times is going out for a preliminary cruise with us to get the story on whatever the hell John is trying to do with the bluefish and stripers. I'm wondering if he'll let me perform surgery by the end of the summer. I mean, I researched his suturing method and everything. Aside from keeping the fish alive, it doesn't really seem all that hard, and even the fish will live for at least 8 minutes out of water from what I've seen. Hardy fellows, our fish. Also, must clean out the "pet" tank with the tautogs, blackfish and that sheepshead minnow. If I had a saltwater tank at home, I'd bring them home since they're such cuties and so fun to watch.

Even so, the blackfish'll get bigger and likely eat everyone else, and the minnow is too fast and fast-thinking for his own good. More black sea bass footage review this coming week. They think the alpha male and the alpha female mated sometime last tuesday even though the light dimmer hasn't put them in "season" yet. Goody goody, I get to be the one to review the grainy black and white sped up footage of fish you can barely see on the tape.

Government jobs are hard. It's a good thing I like fish so much.
