Emma sat on one of the waiting bay chairs; all she could think about was Jenny. ‘Come on Emma, you love her and she loves you, you felt it yourself. Stop being a coward; get up off this chair, and go get Jenny back, you want this, you want her, I know you do.’
Emma jumped up from the chair, grabbed her luggage and started heading towards the airport entrance. She stepped outside and paused for a moment. ‘Maybe today I won’t be able to face her after what happened so I’ll give it a day and confront her tomorrow, which will hopefully be a surprise,’ she thought, pulling her phone out of her pocket and scrolling through her contacts until she reached Eric’s name. She pressed the call button and placed the phone to her ear hearing the ringing sound through the ear piece.
“Hello, this is Eric Hartmann,” he said, answering his phone.
“Hi Eric, it’s Emma.”
“There is no way you could be home already,” he responded, confused.
“Haha, no, I am still at the airport but I was wondering if you would come pick me up?”
“Absolutely! I’m glad you changed your mind, Jenny came home extremely upset, I felt a bit bad for her even though she treated you like shit.”
“There’s one thing though, I don’t want to confront her today so could you maybe help me get a reservation at a hotel?” Emma asked a little worried.
“Oh, well I suppose it’s best to let it cool off for a day so yeah, sure, I’ll just make some calls and then come pick you up”.
“Thanks Eric, see you soon.”
“Bye Emma,” Eric said hanging up.
--------
Jenny drove home not knowing what was going on; her mind was trapped as if it wasn’t there. The person she loved had left her for good and it was all her fault. She arrived home, got out of the car and stumbled her way inside of the house. Sam and Eric were sitting on the couch when they saw her walk in.
“Hey Jenny, how did it go?” Sam called out.
Jenny didn’t respond she just chucked her jacket off onto the coat hanger by the door and dazedly made her way upstairs, dragging herself up them one step at a time. Eric got up from the couch and walked over to the stairs, he watched as she walked up them.
“Jenny, are you alright?” Eric asked.
Jenny didn’t reply, once she was up the top of the stairs she made her way to her bedroom, opening the door and walking in. She flopped down onto the bed which still smelled like the blonde. ‘Emma,’ Jenny thought, a tear running down her face, ‘What have I done?’
Downstairs Sam and Eric talked about the brunette.
“I suppose they broke up,” Eric shrugged.
“Oh jeez, you think? Well done Captain Obvious.”
“Hey, shut up will you. Should we go check up on her?”
“I think we should give her some space for a while, she will come down when she’s ready.”
“Yeah I think you are right,” Eric said, his phone starting to ring.
Hello, this is Eric Hartmann.”
“Hi Eric, it’s Emma.”
“There is no way you could be home already,” he said, confused.
“Who is that?” Sam asked, wondering who he was talking to.
“Shhh, I’ll tell you later,” Eric whispered, covering the mouth piece on the phone.
“Haha, no I am still at the airport but I was wondering if you would come pick me up?”
“Absolutely, I’m glad you changed your mind, Jenny came home extremely upset, I felt a bit bad for her even though she treated you like shit.”
“There’s one thing though, I don’t want to confront her today so could you maybe help me get a reservation at a hotel?” she asked, sounding worried.
“Oh, well I suppose it’s best to let it cool off for a day so, yeah, sure, I’ll just make some calls and then come pick you up.”
“Thanks Eric, See you soon.”
“Bye Emma,” Eric said, hanging up.
“So, what did she want?” Sam asked, raising her eyebrow at him.
“She wants to stay but for tonight at a hotel, she is going to let it cool off for today.”
“Oh, well that is wise.”
“Yeah, okay, I’ve got to go ring David, hopefully he can give me a deal at his father’s hotel.”
“I was going to suggest that,” Sam said, with a giggle.
“Mhm, sure you were,” he mocked.
“Hey!” Sam tried to protest as Eric walked away.
Eric had rung his friend and got the hotel room sorted out for Emma. He finished on the phone and made his way to the door to grab his keys. Once he got them he made his way out the door and to the car. Opening the door he got in and started to drive to the airport to pick the blonde up.
----------
Emma was waiting patiently out the front of the airport for Eric. ‘Where is he? It has been an hour already,’ she thought, becoming a little frustrated that he hadn’t arrived yet. As soon as she pulled out her phone to ring him to find out where he was she saw him walk over to her.
“Eric! There you are. I was getting a little worried you weren’t going to show.”
“Haha, sorry, my mate wanted to talk forever, I told him I had to go but he kept talking and talking. Anyway I got your hotel room all sorted out.”
“Thanks Eric.”
Eric nodded and took a hold of Emma’s luggage and led her towards the car. He opened the passenger side door for her to get in; she got in and thanked him as he closed the door behind her. Eric made his way around to the back of the car and put the luggage in the boot before making his way to the driver’s side. Once everything was settled he drove to the hotel, the drive was quiet and awkward. Eric didn’t know what to say in case he blurted out something stupid, so he kept his mouth shut.
Once they arrived at the hotel Eric found the parking space which David had saved for him and parked in it. Emma turned to him, looking confused.
‘VIP? Are you sure we are allowed to park here?”
“Haha, yes I am sure, my mate’s father owns the place, I asked him if he had a spare room for you.”
“Oh you are sneaky.”
“Hartmann’s do it best,” he said, with a wink.
“Mm, you got that right,” Emma mumbled, under her breath.
“Alright, come on, let’s go,” Eric said, opening Emma’s door for her.
Emma got out of the car and Eric closed the door behind her and locked it. He headed towards the entrance of the hotel, the blonde followed closely behind. Once inside Eric was greeted by a boy his own age. They talked and nodded and pointed here and there before Eric turned to Emma.
“Alright, all set. Let’s get you up to your room.”
“That sound’s good.”
Eric led her to her room. They went up to the 13th floor of the hotel and down a corridor until they reached room 13C. They walked in and Emma was amazed at how big and luxurious it was. There was a queen sized bed with an on-suite, a minibar, small kitchen, laundry, lounge room with a big screen television, DVD player, CD player, surround sound system and a balcony with a gorgeous view.
“Uh.. um… I … er… are you sure this is a hotel room?” Emma stuttered.
“Well, I’m pretty sure it is because it’s part of the hotel.”
“Haha, I can’t afford this though.”
“Oh don’t worry about it, David owes me, he’s got everything sorted, help yourself to anything, room service, stuff out of the minibar, the milk out of the fridge, it’s all taken care of.”
“Oh wow, thank you so much Eric.”
“No problem, I better be off, enjoy you stay here and call me tomorrow morning when you want to be picked up.”
“Will do,” Emma said, with a smile.
Eric began to walk towards the door when he paused and turned back around.
“Oh and Emma, I’m glad you changed your mind, you and Jenny are perfect for each other.”
“I think we are too.”
On that note Eric made his was out of the room leaving Emma to absorb the massive room around her. She walked around it, looking at every inch of it until she finally made it out onto the balcony to relax. Emma sat on the chair enjoying the nice view. She could tell it was going to be a long afternoon.
After a few hours of sitting outside reading the magazines that where on the side table she got up and went inside to make herself something to eat. The sun had started to go down and she was getting hungry. Opening the fridge there was nothing in there but a few tiny milk containers. ‘Mm forgot hotels don’t provide food in fridges, I guess its room service then,’ she thought, heading towards the phone to order some food. She punched in the number for room service and placed the phone to her ear.
“Hello, Room Service, how may I help you?”
“I’d like to order some food.”
“Certainly, what can I get for you?”
“Can I get some apple pork chops and a bottle of coke?”
“No problem ma’am, it will be about a half hour or so wait. We will bring it to your room when it’s cooked, just to make sure you are in room 13C right?”
“Thank you and yes I am.”
“Alright shouldn’t be too long.”
“Thanks,” Emma said, hanging the phone up.
About 45 minutes later Emma heard a knock on her door. She rushed over to it and opened it; there stood a young male in a suit with a trolley in front of him.
“Apple pork chops and a bottle of coke?” he asked.
“Yes, right this way,” Emma said, leading him towards the table.
The man placed her meal on the table, Emma thanked him as he left. Once he was out of the room, she sat down and ate her dinner. ‘It just isn’t the same without Jenny by my side,’ she thought, taking a sip of her drink.
As soon as Emma finished she cleaned up and put the plate on the sink and the bottle in the bin before retreating to the TV and turning it on. She stopped when she saw a movie about to start; she pressed the ‘i’ on the remote and saw the movie was called, ‘The Tourist,’ staring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. ‘I suppose any movie with Angelina Jolie is worth a watch, and Johnny Depp is amazing, so why not,’ she thought, grabbing a spare blanket and snuggling up on the couch.
-------
Emma woke up to the sun shining brightly into her eyes. She groaned as she got up from the couch and squinted as she looked around the room. She turned off the TV and folded up the blanket she had used before heading over to her luggage and grabbing a clean pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Heading towards the bathroom she grabbed a towel. The blonde turned on the shower and set it to the right temperature, getting undressed she stepped into shower, sighing as she let the water hit her face. She closed her eyes as she let the water wash away everything she was feeling.
Once she was finished she turned off the water and stepped out grabbing the towel, drying herself off. After she was dry she got dressed before making her way out of the bathroom and to where her mobile was. She picked it up and scrolled to Eric’s name pressing the call button.
“Mm, Hello Eric Hartmann,” he said, groggily.
“Oh, did I wake you? Sorry.”
“Emma?”
“Yeah, I can call back later, I didn’t even realise it was only 8:30am.”
“Oh, no, it’s fine. Do you want to be picked up?”
“If you wouldn’t mind.”
“Not at all, I will be there soon.”
“Alright bye, see you soon.”
“Bye Emma,” he said, hanging up.
Emma cleaned the bathroom up before sitting down on the couch waiting for Eric. After about an hour a knock sounded from the door and Emma rushed over to open it.
“Hey Eric.”
“Hey Emma, ready to go?”
“Definitely.”
Eric grabbed her suitcase and made his way out the door followed closely by Emma. They both made their way down to the lobby of the hotel; Eric walked over to David and spoke a few words to him before heading back to Emma and out the entrance door to the hotel. Once they were out of the hotel they made their way to the car. When everything was set Eric started to drive home.
Emma felt her stomach do somersaults as they turned into the familiar rocky driveway. ‘Oh shit, Emma calm down, calm down!’ Her mind was racing at the speed of light, she was trying to keep up with it but when they finally stopped out the front of the house, she felt like she couldn’t breathe. Eric came around and opened the door for her and she got out, taking a deep breath in and out she followed Eric into the house. It was about 11:00am and she thought Jenny would be up, but when she walked in the only person in the lounge room was Sam.
“Emma!”
“Hi, Sam.”
“So glad you changed your mind, I can’t get Jenny out of her room.”
“Oh, let me try then.”
“Alright, good luck.”
Emma turned from the lounge room and walked up the familiar stairs and then towards Jenny’s bedroom door. She stopped and took a deep breath in and out once again before knocking on the door. The blonde heard a muffle coming from inside the room and couldn’t understand what was being said; she slowly turned the door knob and walked in.
“Sam, I don’t want to get up, leave me alone!” Jenny mumbled, into her pillow.
“Good thing I’m not Sam then.”
Jenny froze and then slowly turned her head to see if she was dreaming or not.
“Em…Emma, are you reall…really here?” Jenny stuttered.
“Last time I checked I was,” she said, letting a small smile creep upon her face.
“Emma, I am so, so, so sorry baby, really sorry, I don’t know what came over me… yo...” a tear escaped her right eye and rolled down her cheek towards her chin; it was then followed by a few more tears that escaped both her eyes. “You are my angel, my life, my whole wor…world,” she spoke in between sobs.
Emma couldn’t take seeing Jenny like this, she rushed over to the brunette and gathered her into her arms. Jenny clung to Emma, not wanting to let her out of her sight and Emma didn’t mind at all as she had the same feelings for Jenny.
“Shhh, babe… shh, it’s ok, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere,” Emma said, rubbing Jenny’s back in comfort.
Jenny pulled back and looked into Emma’s gorgeous hazel eyes and opened her mouth to speak but no words came out, she coughed and tried again.
“Promise?” she finally said.
Emma looked at her with a slight smile before bringing her hand up to the brunette’s face and wiping away the remaining tears that covered her cheeks. She kissed Jenny’s forehead, then her nose and then looked back into her eyes.
“I Promise.” ‘I love you completely.’
“I… I promise with all my heart and soul that I will never leave you.”
Emma leaned in and gave her a quick, soft kiss on the lips.
“I know,” the blonde said, with a smile. “Let’s go get something to eat?”
“That sounds great because I’m hungry.”
Emma got up and held her hand out for Jenny to grab which she happily took, she then pulled the brunette up off the bed and they made their way downstairs. Once they reached the bottom step Sam and Eric turned to them from the lounge room with big smiles on their faces.
“I see you two worked thing out,” Eric spoke.
“Yes we did,” Jenny said, nudging Emma and winking, making her blush slightly and smile to herself.
Jenny pulled Emma into the kitchen and made them some pancakes as she couldn’t be bothered making anything else. Emma watched with a smile on her face, Jenny turned around and saw her and let out a slight giggle.
“Why are you smiling?”
“Because you are beautiful.”
“You’re the beautiful one,” Jenny corrected. “And stupid me almost lost you.”
“Good thing, I got a feeling of you saying you loved me at the airport before you left.”
“I actually said I loved you in my mind,” Jenny smiled.
“Well I believe my inner self heard you,” Emma smiled back.
Jenny giggled as she flicked some pancake batter at Emma which caused her to jump back in shock.
“Hey!” Emma protested.
“Oh shush you,” Jenny said, coming over and giving her a gentle, soft kiss on the lips.
Emma sighed into the kiss.
“I missed this,” Emma said, breaking away.
“Me too,” Jenny replied, walking back over to the pancakes and taking them off the stove. “Let’s eat,” she added, grabbing two plates and putting the pancakes on them.
Emma followed her to the table and sat down next to her, they didn’t say much while eating as they enjoyed each other company. When they finished Jenny took Emma’s plate to the sink and rinsed it off before putting it into the dishwasher.
-------
Over the last few days everything was hectic with organising the funeral. Everyone was running around like headless chicken’s trying to make sure everything was perfect. Everyone was well informed of how the day was being planned, where it was being held, the after ceremony, and all the other little details. Jenny and Emma didn’t get to spend much time together as Jenny was too busy helping with the planning and didn’t have time to stop, she felt bad as Emma didn’t really have anything to do or anyone to speak too.
Finally the day of the funeral arrived and Jenny woke up before Emma, she jumped in the shower and got herself dressed for the occasion before walking back into the room and waking Emma up. Emma stirred and groaned as Jenny nudged her slightly; the brunette couldn’t help but giggle. Emma finally woke up and smiled as she saw two gorgeous blue eyes smiling back at her.
“Good morning beautiful,” Jenny said, leaning down and kissing Emma’s forehead.
“Mm, Morning.”
“Time to get up,” she said, smiling.
“Ugh, really?”
“Mhm.”
“Oh fine,” Emma said, groaning as she pulled herself out of bed. She grabbed her clothes and went for a shower. Once she was showered and dressed she joined Jenny and her family down stairs.
“Alright is everyone here?” Leah asked.
“Yes I think so,” Sam said, also looking around.
“Alright, good, because we need to figure out transportation unless everyone wants to drive themselves there? But I think it would be a little silly if we take four cars to the same place.”
“I can take Jenny and Emma with Bec and I, if they want that is?” Eric piped in.
“Yeah, that is fine by me,” Jenny replied.
“Same with me,” Emma nodded.
“Alright and how about you Sam?”
“I’ll just go with you, dad and Abi.”
“Okay, all set then. Has everyone got everything they need?”
“Yes,” they all replied in tandem.
Everyone made their way out of the house and filed one by one into the cars before they headed off into the direction of the cemetery.
When they reached the place, they all got out and made their way over to where they ceremony was being held. They sat down on the chairs provided and waited for the other guests to arrive. Everyone had finally arrived and took a seat.
Jenny and Emma were silently sitting side by side, hand in hand for the very first time in what seemed like forever. A flashback played in Emma’s mind to when they first had dinner with Jenny’s parents. They were sitting on the opposite side of the table looking at them with questioning eyes. Emma recalled Mr. Hartmann asking, “How did you two meet?” Then she heard herself Emma-ing all over the place; looking like a fool in front of the two people that cared more about Jenny then she herself could ever imagine. Well of course they did; they were her parents. But now, here they were sitting in the Cemetery saying goodbye to those two wonderful people; even if they didn’t see eye to eye at the time, didn’t believe Jenny or Emma about the drug problem or by trying to separate them by taking Jenny to Ireland; Jenny knew and so did Emma. Deep down Jenny’s parents loved Emma for who she was. She made their little girl very happy. The kind of happy that makes your heart beat slow and fast at the same time; the kind of happy that makes you fall in love with that person all over again just by looking at them; the kind of happy that they are the only person you notice when you walk into a room full of people. Emma was special to Jenny and her parents knew that, for that very single thought Emma had dragged herself out of Cologne and into a completely different setting to be there for Jenny and to let her know she’s always there for her.
When Jenny started to cry Emma moved closer to her and held her, not letting her go until she moved herself. The blonde knew this was difficult for everyone especially her girlfriend and that she had no other way to comfort her then just being by her side no matter what.
Once the funeral was over they all made their way to the cars, Emma was still holding on to Jenny not letting her go. Once inside the cars they made their way back to the house for the after funeral gathering where people could pay their respects some more. They reached the house and made their way inside.
Jenny pulled Emma upstairs and into her room closing the door behind them. She then turned back around to Emma and embraced her in a tight hug. They stood like that for a while before Jenny pulled away. Emma brought her hands up and cupped Jenny’s face in them.
“I love you,” Emma spoke, softly to her.
“And I love you Emma Muller, forever,” Jenny responded, leaning her forehead on the blondes. “Emma?” Jenny finally said after a moment’s silence.
“Jenny?”
“Thanks for being here with me,” Jenny said, embracing her in another hug.
“Always.”
