Emma woke up excited and ready to go. Remembering the last few days without Jenny and how she missed her very much. Her sister’s were still being a bloody pain in the ass. Her mother helped her pack her bags for this very single day that made her smile like she couldn’t describe. ‘5 more hours until I leave to see my baby, my life, my world and I couldn’t be happier; well I mean I am really going to miss Tyler and Simone. I dunno if they will handle being without me for a few weeks. I have been blowing them off lately to spend time with Jenny but I hope they understand that they mean much more then I could explain. Love is a crazy thing and makes you do things you can’t control...’ Emma’s thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Uh… Yeah, come in.”
“Hi Emma.”
“Hey Tyler, what can I do for you?”
“Well, seeing as it’s your last day here for a few weeks, maybe you could hang out with me and Simone. We are going to miss you so much and we don’t get to see you much anymore,” Tyler said playing with his hands.
“Aw Ty; come here,” she said getting out of bed and kneeling down. She began to wrap her arms around the small boy in front of her. She whispered in his ear, “Of course I will, just remember you are not second best. You will always be first in my heart, but Jenny, she has another piece of my heart that’s different.”
“She’s your girlfriend Emma; of course you would spend more time with her. I get it, but it is nice to see you when we do,” Tyler said with a smile on his face. He was smart for a ten year old boy and that’s why Emma loved him to pieces, as well as Simone.
“Ty, you are wonderful, do you know that?” she asked. Tyler nodded in response, “Alright, well you go get ready and tell Simone to as well. I will take you both out to the park, then to get some ice cream,” Emma said smiling at him, ruffling his hair before he left. As soon as Tyler left her room she got up and got her clothes for the day and a clean towel; making her way down the hall to the bathroom. Once in, she locked the door and turned on the water; getting it to the right temperature. When it was finally at that perfect temperature she started removing all her clothes. She stepped into the shower and closed the door, having the water pelt down on her back relaxed her completely as she closed her eyes. Her thoughts were on Jenny; what she was doing, what was going on, if she was awake or still asleep; anticipating her arrival. Once her thoughts flooded her, she opened her eyes back into reality. She washed her body with soap letting the water wash away the suds. When she was done, she opened the shower door and grabbed the towel, drying herself. She moved over and put on her clothes; moving once more, over to the sink to brush her teeth. After she was done she opened the door revealing her sister standing there.
“About time, I was worried I would have to break the door down and drag you out myself.”
Emma rolled her eyes and sighed. “Oh, would you give it a rest Lisa. You take a lot longer than me, so piss off.”
“Hey, don’t talk to me like that, respect you elders you spoilt brat.”
“Hah! Don’t make me laugh Lisa, I am more mature then you and I am pretty sure you are the spoilt bitch here who always moans if you don’t get your way,” Lisa slapped Emma making Emma grab her face in shock, “See what I mean! Fuck off will you!”
“Oh fucking shut up and get out of my fucking way,” Lisa said pushing passed Emma and entering the bathroom. “Oh and by the way Emma, Jenny will come to her senses and dump you without hesitation.” ‘That’s it!’ Emma thought to herself before swinging her hand towards Lisa. Emma slapped Lisa hard causing her to fall towards the door. “Are you mental? Don’t fucking touch me again you psycho fucking bitch,” Lisa retaliated.
“Excuse me? I’m a psycho fucking bitch because I slapped you? And what does that make you? You have been hitting and pushing me around my whole fucking life and you think it’s alright? Well guess what, I have had it up to here with you and your stupid fucking games. Please do me a favour while I’m gone; fucking check yourself out and realise what it is you are really doing to me because I HAVE FUCKING HAD ENOUGH!” Emma spoke seriously to her sister.
Lisa stared at her in disbelief. She couldn’t believe what had come out of Emma’s mouth; she finally stood up for herself and Lisa was shocked, she didn’t think Emma had it in her. She stood there for a few more minutes before speaking. “Wow midget, you finally grew some balls and stood up for yourself. Maybe Jenny is good for you after all,” after a few seconds she bursts into laughter. “Ah ha, yeah right, calm you’re fucking shit, right now. I’m your older sister I am supposed to give you shit and I like it so fuck off.”
“Really? Is it in some fucking rule book that the older sister must hate on the younger sibling? You don’t see me picking on Simone do you? No because she is a good kid and I love her. Just wished you had the dignity to actually realise that I am your flesh and blood and when you hurt me; you are actually hurting your bloody fucking self. Go have your shower; I don’t want to look at you anymore,” Emma hissed, turning away not wanting to hear anything more Lisa had to say.
Making her way to her bedroom; she could still feel the anger boiling up inside her; she needed to get rid of it but how? Jenny wasn’t there to give her a hug and tell her everything will be alright and that made her a little sad. She needed her Jenny more than ever now. A few minutes later Simone and Tyler came running into her room; completely excited about the day ahead of them. Emma couldn’t help but smile; she saw them bouncing up and down.
“You two ready to go?” Emma asked even though she knew what the answer was going to be.
“Yes!” they both said in unison.
“Alright, well let’s go,” Emma said grabbing her bag and phone from the table and making her way out the door before heading downstairs.
“HEY MUM… DAD!” Emma yelled.
“Yes dear?” Emma’s mum poked her head out from the kitchen.
“I am going to take Tyler and Simone to the park and then out for some ice cream before I leave. Is that alright?”
“That’s fine sweetie, you three have fun,” she said smiling towards the two excited bundles of joy in front of the door.
“We will mum. Come on Emma, let’s go,” Tyler replied.
Getting pulled out of the house; Emma had no control over where they were going. The two younger ones walked slightly ahead towards the park which was only a few blocks away. Once they had reached the park Emma let them go play on the equipment while she sat on the bench watching them while her thoughts returned to Jenny. ‘She would definitely have to be awake now,’ she thought.
----------
Jenny awoke to the shining light coming towards her from the corner of the curtains which weren’t pulled all the way across. Yawning and stretching, she jolted upwards in a sitting position with the biggest smile on her face as she realised today was the day Emma was coming to see her. ‘Finally, I get to see that beautiful face once again; oh I can’t wait.’ A knock came at her door; without hesitation she got up and answered it. Eric looked at her with the exact same expression she had just a few minutes ago.
“Uh… Morning Eric?” Jenny said trying to hold back a giggle.
“Jenny, you finally get to meet her,” Eric replied excitedly.
“Who?”
“Bec, she’s coming back from her family vacation and coming over in two hours.”
“Oh fantastic, Emma will be here in about six to seven hours,” Jenny smiled.
“Awesome! Well I better go get ready,” Eric said already half way down the hall.
Jenny giggled to herself, walking back into her room. She grabbed some clothes and a towel before making her way to the bathroom for a shower. Closing the door behind her she smiled again not being able hold in the excitement of Emma’s arrival. Once she finished in the shower she grabbed her towel and wrapped it around herself. Once dry and dressed she made her way out of the bathroom. Walking over to her phone as she picked it up, she noticed she had a message. The brunette checked who it was from and her smile got even bigger. “Emma,” she said as she opened it to read the message. ‘Hi baby, can’t wait to see you, you have no idea how much I have missed you. Bye xoxo.’ Closing her phone she couldn’t believe how big her smile was. It actually started to hurt her face.
Jenny made her way downstairs to get something for breakfast. Reaching the bottom step she heard her little cousin.
“Morning Jenny,” her cousin called.
“Morning Abigail, what are you up too?”
“Eating breakfast.”
“Oh and what are you eating,” Jenny smiled, walking over to her eight year old cousin.
“Eggs and bacon on toast,” she said happily.
“Oh that sounds perfect, maybe I will have some too.”
“Coming right up,” her aunty yelled from the kitchen.
“Haha, thanks Aunt Leah.”
A few minutes later her Aunty emerged from the kitchen with her breakfast and placed it in front of her before returning to the kitchen.
“Thanks Aunt Leah, this looks great,” Jenny called out to her.
“No problem sweetie, enjoy.”
Jenny ate her food and cleaned the table off as a thank you to her aunty for the nice breakfast. Before she knew it, two hours had almost passed and Eric was running down the stairs waiting patiently for the doorbell to ring. Jenny let out a slight laugh which caused him to turn and glare at her.
“What?” he asked impatiently.
“Oh, nothing, but you look adorable in that outfit and your nervousness is seeping through you like crazy,” Jenny mocked.
“Hey. Shut up, she is special alright,” he poked his tongue out at her.
“I know that feeling,” Jenny said in a sort of sad tone.
“Hey Jenny, Emma will be here soon enough and you can hug and kiss and … actually I really don’t want to know what else you have planned,” he said covering his ears just in case Jenny wanted to inform him.
All Jenny could do was laugh until she finally could speak once more.
“Get your mind out of the gutter, Eric.”
“Hey, your mind must be there too if you’re thinking it as well,” he mocked.
“Haha, very funny,” Jenny teased. Hearing the doorbell ring; Eric raced over to it almost stumbling over the coat hanger by the door.
“SHIT!” He yelled, “Shit,” he said a little bit quieter and looked over to Jenny who was holding back her laughter. “Shhh,” he said, placing his finger to his lips before opening the door revealing his girlfriend standing there with the same expression on her face Jenny had.
“Are you alright babe?” She asked walking towards him and giving him a hug.
“Never better, the coat hanger jumped out in front of me,” he said shyly.
“Aw, you are adorable, come here,” She said pulling him in for a kiss.
Jenny just stood there in amazement at how their relationship reminded her of herself and Emma’s, ‘must run in the family,’ she thought. They stayed kissing like that for what seemed like forever until Jenny coughed; causing Eric to jump back and blush.
“Eric, are you blushing?” Jenny laughed.
“Shut up,” he replied looking down at his feet. “Oh, um… Bec this is Jenny my cousin,” He said pointing towards Jenny. “Jenny, this is Bec,” He said smiling at his girlfriend.
“Hi Bec, it’s lovely to meet you,” Jenny said putting out her hand which Bec gratefully took.
“Hello, Jenny and you,” she smiled at her, “Eric has told me a lot about you. It’s good to finally put a face to a name.”
“Whatever he has said it’s probably a lie,” Jenny laughed causing Bec and Eric to laugh with her.
Eric’s mother made her way into the living room and saw them standing at the door. She looked at them with a confused expression on her face.
“So are you just going to stand there all day or are you doing to come in,” Leah said in a questioning look.
“Hello again Ms. Hartmann… Opps... I mean Leah,” she said going over to give her a hug.
“Pleasure is all mine, how are you doing Bec?”
“Very well thanks and yourself?”
“I am good thanks sweetie, sit down; make yourself comfortable. Would you like something to eat or drink?”
“I wouldn’t mind a cup of tea,” she smiled at her.
“Eric?”
“Me to Mum.”
“Jenn… Dear what’s wrong?” she asked as she turned to see Jenny who had now changed her expression to that of a depressed look.
“Uh… um... what? Nothing, I am fine,” Jenny stuttered.
“Come with me and help dear, we will have a talk,” she said grabbing a hold of Jenny’s hand. Once out of sight she asked again, “So what’s wrong?”
“Well… Um… he...hearing her call you Ms. Hartmann; it… um… it…” she started trying to hold back the tears that were forming in her eyes. “It made me realise that… um.. no one can ever say that to my parent ever ag... again,” she couldn’t hold the tears back any longer. They came streaming down her face like a waterfall that couldn’t be stopped. Her Aunty came over to her embracing her into a tight hug. They stayed like that for a few minutes until her Aunty pulled back; wiping away the tears as she spoke.
“Your parents would be so proud of you right now. Everything you have been though, everything that has happened you are still here, stronger than ever. You breaking down like this only shows that you are getting stronger. You are letting everything that is bottling up inside of you out. It is better to let everything out than to keep it inside of you. Just remember you have a whole bunch of people around you who love you dearly and will be here for you forever,” she said smiling warmly at Jenny.
Jenny wiped the remaining tears from her eyes and gave her Aunty another hug. “Thank you,” she whispered into her ear before being interrupted by a concerned Eric.
“Everything alright?” he asked.
“Everything is fine,” Jenny reassured him. “Just needed to get some stuff off my chest.”
“Oh, alright,” he said coming over and giving Jenny a tight hug which she could hardly breathe from.
“Thanks Eric.”
“Now about that tea?” he asked his mother.
“I forgot; I will make them right now,” she said turning towards the cupboard.
Once tea was made they were joined by Abigail, Sam and Uncle Steven. They all sat down and watched a family movie that suited everyone in the household.
……..
Emma was back at home after a long day hanging with her younger brother and sister. It was almost time for her to leave. Mixed emotions were running through her head from excitement to nervousness to anxiousness and to being worried. She didn’t know why she was worried, but she was and that made her even more nervous. There was a knock at her door which made her jump a little. ‘Ach, calm down Emma, you are a ball of emotions right now,’ she thought before she yelled out.
“Come in.”
“Hey kiddo, it’s time to go. Are you ready?
“Ye…” she cleared her throat. “Yes, is the driver here?”
“Uh no, he didn’t show. Looks like I’m taking you. Is that alright?”
“Wouldn’t want it any other way,” she smiled at her dad.
Her father grabbed her suitcase and Emma grabbed her carry on and they made their way down the stairs and into the lounge room for the goodbye session that was about to occur.
“Bye Mum, I’ll miss you so much,” Emma said going over towards her mother and hugging her, a slight tear rolled down both their cheeks.
“Bye Sweetie, have fun and be safe. Make sure you keep us updated with how you are.”
“Will do,” She said moving towards her younger brother and sister. “Bye kiddos will definitely miss you,” she said giving them both a massive hug.
“Bye Emma,” they both said.
Turning towards her sister’s she didn’t know what to do; they never really got along so why would they care she was going. She was shocked and taken back when Tracey came over and hugged her to death.
“You be safe you hear me,” Tracey said trying to hold back tears.
“I...I will…I Pr...promise” she said trying to breathe through Tracey’s hug.
Lisa came over and gave her a quick hug and a goodbye which didn’t surprise Emma the slightest. With the fight they had this morning she didn’t even think a hug from her sister was even in the category.
After the goodbye she followed her father out to the car and got in. He turned the car on while Emma waved crazily at her family who were standing on the lawn. The car started to move as she continued to wave until they were out of sight. Emma let out a sigh which confused her father as he didn’t know the reason for it.
“You alright kiddo?”
“Jenny forgot to send her driver out to pick me up which could mean she might have forgotten I am coming today,” she sighed again.
“Aw, I’m pretty sure she remembered, she’s probably just caught up with her own family problems,” her father reassured her.
“You’re probably right.”
The rest of the car ride they mostly chatted about what Emma wanted to do in London and some useless stuff that made both her father and herself laugh like crazy. Before they knew it they were at the airport. Her father pulled up into the drop off section. He grabbed Emma’s suitcase and gave it to her, giving her a hug goodbye as he was in a rush as he had to move out of the way.
“I’ll miss you dad,” she yelled out towards the car.
“Miss you too kiddo,” he yelled back. With that he was off.
Emma turned around and swallowed hard. ‘That’s it, no turning back now,’ she thought to herself as she made her way up to the airport desk. She was greeted by the air attendant.
“Good evening ma’am, how are you?” she smiled in Emma’s direction.
“I am fine thanks and yourself?” she asked while handing the attendant her passport.
“Great thanks. Ah, you are off to London I see.”
“Yes I am.”
“Well, you have a wonderful time,” She smiled at Emma, handing her the passport and ticket.
“Thank you,” she replied taking it and looking down at what gate to go too. ‘Hmm gate 3,’ she thought while looking around for where it was exactly. Finding gate 3, she made her way over to it and sat in the waiting area. Ten minutes later an announcement came over the speakers.
“Good evening everyone, sorry for the delay but gate 3 will be delayed another thirty minutes, as the plane has been held up. Sorry for any inconvenience and we hope you enjoy your flights.”
‘Great, this is all I need,’ Emma thought to herself; she tried to think of ways to keep herself occupied for another thirty minutes. It seemed like forever in Emma’s eyes but another announcement came over the speakers.
“Good evening everyone, British airways has landed and will begin deporting the passengers, please listen to the flight attendant at the gate for further directions. They will inform you when you can begin to board. Thank you for your patience and enjoy your flight.”
Moments passed and everyone was off the plane. The flight attendant allowed them to board. Emma made her way over to the queue and waited for her turn. Once reaching the attendant she handed her the ticket, after she checked it and handed it back with a smile she told her to enjoy her flight. Emma thanked her and made her way down the terminal towards the plane. Her heart was beating out of control at this point. The blonde found her seat as quickly as possible and sat down trying to control the feelings bottling up inside her. ‘Ach, come on Emma calm down. Soon you will be in Jenny’s arms again.’
A message came over the speaker in the airplane but Emma didn’t pay much attention to it. She basically got, “Thank you for choosing to fly with British Airways,” and, “I hope you enjoy your flight.” Her heart started to sink in her chest as the plane rumbled to life and started heading towards the runway. Before she knew it, the plane was heading up and up and up into the sky.
“Definitely no backing out now,” she silently spoke to herself.
