Gratitude Project Day 8

Today I am grateful for our home studio.

When we recorded the Revel Moon album, we didn't have a studio. We ended up spending about 5 grand just to record the album and had to work around someone else's schedule. Having our own is just wonderful. We can record any time and day we want and, although we periodically add to our collection of investments, the hardware is ~ours~ and the cost ends up being split between different recording projects. We can also do as many takes as we want and not worry about what we're spending. It allows for some really wonderful experimentation and texturing. We're also in control of how things sound to a greater degree. Jay's a brilliant engineer and mixer. The 'rough' cuts coming in for the new album are already the best recordings I've ever heard of us. It's just so awesome, and I tend to take it a bit for granted sometimes. The musicians 20 years ago didn't have the option of setting up private studios--the gear was just too big and too unwieldy. The technology now really is extraordinary.
