R.I.P. Lis Sladen
Well, that sucks.
Doctor Who actress, Elisabeth Sladen, dead at 63
She's only three years older than my parents :(
I can't say Sarah Jane was my Companion, or even that I had a particularly big affection for the original Doctor Who run. But she actively worked behind the scenes to turn Sarah Jane into the kind of feminist icon little girls could look up to at a time when those were few and far between and her episodes in the new series were lovely. And to be honest, I adored the fact that this fabulous, middle-aged woman was being given her own action-adventure series where everyone within a ten block radius seemed to have an enormous crush on her for no reason other than, well, who wouldn't? She was able to hold her own on screen against both younger companions and younger Doctors and overall, just seemed to be a pretty awesome person.
There's not much of better legacy to leave behind than that.
