my first sketchbook

Originally uploaded by Irea.In response to my previous post of goals for this year, I ordered a couple of art kits. One is a sketch kit which includes pencils, an eraser, charcoal and black crayon, along with a small sketchbook and a very basic instructional book. The other is a pastel kit which includes a sketchbook (made for pastels), a collection of 8 pastel sticks and another basic instructional book.
I haven't gotten into the pastels yet, but I did begin sketching with pencils last night. I didn't learn much from the book aside from all the different drawing media available, but I do have some other more in-depth drawing books on my Amazon wishlist. (Which is not a hint for anyone to buy me anything, it's just where I keep the things I intend to buy later). Though if you DO have excess money burning a hole in your pocket, by all means... ;)
So anyway, I did three sketches last night. The first one I only got as far as the head before Charlie decided he was going to go be somewhere else. The thumbnail above is a scan of my second sketch ever, and my favorite so far. I think it really looks like him! If you click on the picture you can see all three. Charlie makes a great subject when he stays in one place. ;)
I'm pleased to have actually started one of my goals, and I'm *really* pleased that I'm enjoying it! :)
