Last Hockey Game as a Student Eskimo
Well, I played my last game as a 'Student Eskimo' at the weekend at the Welsh National Ice Rink in Cardiff and thought I'd jot down some thoughts about the last 4 years playing with the team, more for my own benefit than anyone elses. I thought this last game went pretty well for me, despite playing out of position at D I still managed to tally a PP goal (my first with the man advantage) and take my first ever penalty ( a completely BS interference call). Didn't mess up too badly with my positional play despite not playing D in a match since December 2003 (and when I did screw up I did have one of the best goalies I've seen to back me up between the pipes). A 12-0 victory was a nice way to wrap up 4 great years with the team too.

2002/3 P2 W1 L1
The highlight of this season was working my way from complete novice through to winning a place on the roster for Varsity. Still ranks as one of my proudest moments of my university career, both in and out of hockey (sad git aren't I?). We drubbed the Oxford Vikings 19-0 that year.
2003/4 P3 W1 L2
The only season I played with a record below .500. Was cut short by a shoulder injury that kept me out from Christmas through to April, meaning that I missed out on beating Oxford 12-3 at the VM. Highlight for me was captaining the team in its first game of the BUIHA (granted we lost 22-3 to a very strong Warwick team, I still remember every minute of that game).
2004/5 P12 W9 L3 G3 A1 P4
Switched from D to the wing this year and my game improved vastly with it. Gradually moved up from the checking line to a scoring line and finished the year with 3 goals. Highlight was scoring twice against Oxford (shame it wasn't in the VM). VM result was 10-4 IIRC. We were also crowned BUIHA Div 2 Champions, dominating Div 2 South and beating Edinburgh for the overall title on goal difference
2005/6 P11 W11 L0 G9 A5+ P14+ PIM 2
This last season has been great fun. We were denied the league title on a couple of technicalities but we beat all comers in the league. Also enjoyed this season as I caught the scoring bug, netting 6 league goals and a hattrick in a friendly (granted I was playing for the girls team that day to help out but we were playing Cardiff Mens B). Highlight of the year was definitely the VM. Started out centreing the 3rd line with the instructions to play defensive and stop them scoring. My line held them goalless throughout the first while we were on the ice. Was asked to move up and centre the second line for the 2nd period. Really enjoyed this, put down a couple of big hits including one right by our net perventing a wraparound and forcing a turnover that led to a goal. Even got myself a cheering section for a while (consisting of 3 or 4 guys from college who had come down to see the girl from college playing in the previous game and a few of the girls). Moved back onto the wing of the 2nd line for the final period and continued to play some good physical hockey. Final score 11-2.

All in all, I'm pretty glad I decided to sign up at the freshers fair back in Oct. 02. And thanks to my job in P'boro next year, I can keep on playing for a few years yet.
