Personally I think it was leaked purposely and then when there was a backlash the government could say. "Hey look what we're doing to the scapegoat".

As for the other cameras, the ones allowed inside during the hanging were cut after the noose was put around his neck and tightened. I don't believe any professional cameras captured the moment, at least not video cameras.
There was debate about whether or not to show it on US television, but that was a stunt to keep people watching. OF COURSE they were going to show it! They showed it hours after it happened. I first saw it on the 5am news the morning after it occured. They didn't wait too long to get the footage up and running, all day long.
We'll see what happenes. They arrested one and have two others in custody, as of yesterday's NPR news.
