"Yellow Dog Democrats"

Jul 11, 2004 14:48

Very few people know the entire joke from which that saying comes. For the sake of enlightment and humor it goes something like this:

"There are some democrats who wouldn't vote republican even if the other candidate were a yellow dog, and there are some republicans who wouldn't vote for a democrat even if he were coming out of the clouds playing a trumpet."

Speaking of dogs, there is this great quote from first season Coupling. While I don't consider this true in all cases (insert more info than you needed to know), it's still funny:

"Sally, they're men. Their idea of foreplay is licking your neck and drowning your ears. They have all the technique of a dog... without the loyalty!"

So went to see Faranheit 9/11 with me mum, and in no way commenting on the substance of the film ('cause heaven forbid that someone should view a mere political disagreement as a personal attack and declare me as an infringer on their fundamental rights or as an unpatriotic supporter of terrorists). I thought it was a good political film. One of the memes I see floating around asks a question, which movie is guaranteed to make you cry and currently I vote for this one. I had heard about it before going, naturally (love him, hate him, you're still giving Michael Moore the publicity by being so obsessive), but I was surprised about how much I cried. And people, I cried as much for the Iraqis as I did for the Americans. Support the war or don't, those regular Iraqi people haven't done a damn thing to me. And whether you agree/disagree with the content of Moore's message, sometimes the man's just damn funny. I've found him rather humorous ever since TV Nation . You know, there are social/legal/political stupidities out there, and sometimes biting sarcasm is an effective way to get someone's attention. Oh, and some words of advice from a [soon-to-be] lawyer: whether it's a new law in the Senate or you're opening a new bank account... it's generally considered a good idea to read a document before you sign it.

I got to have the ponies this entire weekend. Whilst Elvinborn was off galavanting down the Ocoee river rapids, where hopefully no one fell out and drowned (oops, spoke too soon!). Even with a cringe-inducing horse wound, a weekend of ponies is always a good thing.

Began my season of soccer practice in the middle of this week. *looks down at her bruised, scraped knees* Woohoo! Three months of soccer knees! After nearly a year's break, it feels great to be out on the field and in the goal again, although a I need some serious practice before I can be game-ready. During the scrimmage game it was brought to my attention that while I may be in "grab my books and run to class" shape, I am not in soccer shape. So it's back to running miles everyday, which I need to do anyway if I'm going to join a hashing group in Atlanta, which I fully intend to do. Our first game is going to be who knows when, but we should actually win a few this season.

Alright, now I'm off on a major meme-whoring rampage.
