Fighting the War of Terror in New and Innovative Ways

Apr 27, 2006 05:41

The newest weapon in the war on terror? Criminalization of computer users. RIAA friends, senators and lobbyists in Washington are pushing a law to make ripping the CD you bought to MP3-format for your own mp3-player a criminal offence. Even ownership of a program which can do this will be outlawed and is supposedly able to get you into prison in the US.
Why? Because illegal things are done, people make or save money, and money is used by terrorists... No kidding, they use that argument. Beware, "Osama bin Laden has 'Alcohol 120%' and iswilling to use it!" (Leo Laporte on 'TWIT')

If you're suspected to have software able to make this personal use of CDs you bought, your computer can and will be secured, i.e. taken away and examined, according to that law. Fun, isn't it?

While you Americans might worry about this new and innovative way to sniff out all US computers,we prepare for new ID cards with biometric data like fingerprints (or iris scans) - and the interior minister is preparing to sell our biometric data for 30cents per person to ANY interested party, not just to Microsoft. Gives me keyboard-imprints on the forehead... How about ANY data privacy? *sigh* Oh, and why do *our* ID-cards get biometrical informations? Because *your* King George said it's necessary for *his*war on terror.

Iras, off to headdesk some more.
