i ditched out of work early yesterday. i ended up with a crappy haircut, and a parking ticket. two philly firsts!
went out to mcmenamin's for an irish stew, and ended up bar hopping for 5 hours. i felt it this morning, but it was pretty crazy.
i met
old man barber with a bad back and lung issues. handles a single blade razor better than i guessed, and his shop is nifty. you'd think he'd put a sign out in front of his shop that he's a barber, but maybe he just doesn't need it. he'll take his time, and greet (or leave you) as he sees fit.
old man inventor. i asked him if he was working out a three legged chair, but no. it actually turns out he's working on a better system to produce heated shaving cream. (of all things)
he smokes pot, and really wants some, but (apparently due to an age gap) is unable to find anyone to sell him some. "$50 for an 1/8th?" she says. he shakes his head (but still appeared interested).
older lady that called me pretty all night. good hearted, but what's her deal? she was reading a peirs anthony book, and said she like this bar because you could read a book in it... if you were there at the right time. the younger lady next to her was reading jane austin, and actually the two didn't come to the bar together. (now i've personally read books in bars before, but always in some tucked away place. these two were bellied up to the bar which was full of people. anyway she eventually suggested we hop on so we did. i guess this is harsh, and it's not that i didnt have a good time, but i wouldnt be sad if i dont run into her again. when i asked her for a tip for someone new to the area she advised me to buy a hotdog to the homeless guys instead of giving them money. good point. i agree, but as a single suggestion.. kind of an odd thing to note.
commute thought that's sticking with me today
