Shedding Skin;

May 17, 2010 19:40

It was the dawn of a new day
The sun rising above the brewing storm
And she could taste the change on her tongue
Feel it burning under her skin

His face haunted her dreams
Leaving behind scars and blistering cold
And she fought everyday to keep from slipping away
The water deep and hitting her naked flesh

Waking up twisted in her sheets
Sweat slick against her skin
She'd catch her breath and grasp at her heart
Hoping he'd drift away with time

And years past, without a whisper
Until he came crawling back
And words pierced her sound barrier
Drowning her with it's frequency

But she awoke this morning, and watched the sun rise
Shedding skin and walking into the light
She felt the scars on her skin
But drew in a deep cleansing breath

And with wet eyes,
And a light heart,
She glanced down at the ring on her finger
And finally moved on
