Back to the kitchens? Hell NO. C'mon, let's write letters! >>South Dakota Versus 1973's Roe v. Wade

Mar 07, 2006 00:01

i CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT IS GOING ON THESE DAYS. 33 years ago, that was Roe v. Wade. It's 2006- NOW Let's cut welfare AND remove women's rights! In South Dakota (and who knows where next if the Supreme Court decides to approve?), they are saying you can be raped by your family member and you will be forced to have the child.- WHAT?!?!?! How's that for progression?
Yeah, that solves a LOT of problems. Why don't you rich white men stay home to take care of all of these children that are going to be born to underage, poorer-class people? We, the world, we're not already overpopulated or anything. Come on, rape, plunder, conquer! I'm sure if you have the right amount of money and you knock up your mistress, abortion won't be out of the question, eh? But we'll keep all that Hush Hush..

If you're going to insist on making Other people's birth decisions, why don't you bring back the castration process for men?..takes two to tango.
Fucking shit. We're on a right-winged rollercoaster back to the Victorian Era or some other terrible age. We're fed lies, lies, more lies...especially from Fox News.. while our rights as citizens are slowly being removed, one by one.. a dissassembly of Rights. We should all be OUTRAGED! What's next? Women are refused birth control methods? Oh, wait, that ALREADY happend within the last year, didn't it?!

1916 Margaret Sanger tests the validity of New York’s anti-contraception law by establishing a clinic in Brooklyn. The most well-known of birth control advocates, she is one of hundreds arrested over a 40-year period for working to establish women’s right to control their own bodies.

1920 The Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is ratified. It declares: “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

Will this suddenly dissappear because no one is standing up to SAY SOMETHING?
1964 Title VII of the Civil Rights Act passes including a prohibition against employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex.

MAJOR demonstration, anyone? Why did it seem that the world could/would change at a much faster rate during the 1960s and 70s? i really want to be optimistic about change.. but it's challenging when you think of who calls the shots in our government. Our president resembles a monkey too closely. it's so hard to figure out why people are so apathetic when there are so many pressing issues. i guess it's hard to tell what can happen.. & that may be the reason why i have ceased to take large involvement in these things for the past few years, though my interest in the matters never diminished. Can i make a difference? i think SO. "The People, united, will never be defeated." i'm resolving at this very moment to not let THIS issue fall to the ground in front of me. As a woman, as an individual, as a feminist. For all of the people that struggled with these issues throughout time, the struggle CONTINUES.

i really love Jon Stewart, by the way.
Also, i really miss the Food Not Bombs crew, this second!! <3

(i don't care if anyone or no one reads this..
BUT, MAYBE this agenda will force me out of my habitual solitude to gather with others, of whom, give a shit? WE can change this place.) i'm thinking that if i write this on here, i will be held liable. :)
GRAB your soapbox, dust it off, and get ON. Otherwise prepare for DOOM. These are The Days..
