Lest you, my faithful readers, feel let down with the lack of update, here I am.
Last week, I developed the most amazing sensitivity to cold you can imagine in a couple of my teeth. I've never really had cold sensitivity in my teeth issues at all. So, you know, maybe this is just what it feels like to people who do. But, it sure felt worse than anything I can remember anyone telling me about previously.
Basically, what happened was this: Last week I was minding my own business, sitting down to a nice meal of take-out "chinese" food. I opened up a Diet Mountain Dew and took a normal drink from the can. And, then, I tried very hard to concentrate on not passing out from the amazingly bad feeling which drove its way through my bones and into my brain. I don't think I've ever felt like I might pass out from pain before. I actually worried about it. The next day, things were still pretty bad there. By the next day, I found that room temperature water was Too Cold.
The good news is, you can pretty much avoid getting any liquid on your front gums by drinking through a straw. The better news is that I discovered yesterday that I could once again swish Listerine around my mouth; so, it seems like it is abating.
In other mouth news, the appointment with Dr. Riley last week went pretty well. The look around at my sinuses and throat with the fiberoptic camera pretty much confirmed everything he expected, which is nice. It does turn out I have a deviated septum; but it doesn't look like it's so bad that it's really interesting. Mostly, as expected, my tongue sits too far back because my lower jaw does, and my tongue is kind of ... um ... you know ... bigger than other peoples'. So, even when I am awake it fills up a lot more of my airway than it should when I lay on my back. And, when I am asleep, it's just a muscle that relaxes ... and fills up even more. So, the already proposed surgery looks like it will help my mild sleep apnea as well as my jaw. Hurray.
I've been lame and not got the pictures scanned yet. But, never you fear! I shall. And then you, too, can see my vocal cords (which is actually kind of cool (and not really that different from anyone else's)).
