I like Boone. I don't adore him or anything, because I didn't feel I had a grip on the character till Hearts and Minds, and I'm not sure I'm liking Locke'sThug!Boone that we've seen since, but I also think they're going somewhere with that. So I guess I'm #3.

And I totally want to to see the Jack rant.

No, I totally agree that Boone was just sort of...floating out there 'til he became Thug!Boone. (Who is awesome, and did you see the promo tonight? FLAILING!)

But there's this weird vibe that I've been seeing, that people just *don't like* the guy. And I understand that, but I'd just like to know *why*.

And I totally don't get why people don't like *Jack*, of all people, so that'll be fun.

Boone is the Riley Finn of Lost.

And Jack is cool too. I don't see why people diss him. For god's sakes, he willingly took on the leadership for forty odd idiots and (with a little help from Dead Daddykins) saved their asses.

Jack has continually balked and dragged his feet on accepting the responsibility the other survivors have thrust upon him. If he didn't have Hurley around to be keeping people from actually killing each other he would have run into more problems by now.

I disagree with the continually balking and dragging his feet.

But I do agree with the Hurley part. Hurley is Commander Riker. Jack would be a dead duck without him

I think I'm basing the "continually" on his reaction to Claire bringing him the stuff on the passenger memorial service, and possibly a few other half-remembered scenes of him reacting to various concerns being brought to him with impatience, apathy, or queries as to why the hell they were bringing this stuff to him. I had a discussion some weeks or months back on Kate's not intervening to keep Sawyer from being tortured and how it might be in fact an indicator that she's too used to being Outlaw Girl to have quite realized that in that case she in fact had the ability to object on moral grounds -- could be Jack was having a similar issue in terms of slowness to recognize and acknowledge that he's been made leader-by-default and respond accordingly to either accept the responsibility or reject it publicly and explicitly.
