I didn't tell you this, but awhile back we rescued two sugar gliders (think Australian flying squirrel), and they currently live in a huge-ass cage in my room.
This morning, I wake up to see a sugar glider clinging to the *outside* of the cage. It seems that a particular someone (read: Mum) didn't make sure that the bottom cage door was latched properly after a interaction session, and now I had two small mammals roaming my room.
I had to get them back in; my room isn't exactly the safest place to roam around in, nor the most sanitary. Spook was easy, I hung the Sanctuary sleeping pouch on the outside of the cage. As soon as he got in, I moved the pouch back in while he emitted that godsawful pencil-sharpener noise he usually makes when you try to talk in my room at certain hours of the day.
Kyu was another problem. She may be friendlier, but she don't like being picked up, and she's been known to mistake my fingers for grubs. So I had to watch her as she used the place under my bed as a highway between the foot of my bed and somewhere near the head, where I had to stop her from chewing on manga. I had to get the ladder out from the cage, let her get on it, then transfer both in. I gave her both a grub and a chicken sliver. She then looked at me expectanly until it was obvious that she wasn't getting anymore treats or freedom, then joined her cranky brother in the pouch.
All in all, they had a adventure. I'm elated that they didn't get themselves stuck or electrocuted. But still, maybe I should get them to a vet checkup. Because, like I said, my room isn't the cleanest.
sugar glider,
how fun
