Title: The Anniversary
Fandom: Supernatural FPS
Characters: Dean, Sam
Rating: G
Summary: It is a year after Sam went into the abyss. Post 5.22. AU.

Sam didn’t know what brought him there or whether he wanted it or not. Just a voice in his head and a nagging nudge on his shoulder from Castiel that kept telling him - not to go to this place, but to let Dean know that he was alive. Had been, since a year ago, since Castiel raised him from the fiery chasm. But Sam held on. He missed his brother greatly but he saw him in Lisa’s house and knew that was where he was supposed to be. Their dad once said he wanted Dean to have a home and Sam to return to school. Well, Sam didn’t feel like he could go back to school anymore but Dean had got a home now, a girlfriend, a son, a white picket fence house. There was no way Sam would ever drag him out to the road again.

So Sam never thought he would see Dean here, at the cemetery, where he’d been thrown into hell. But there Dean was, kneeling, with shoulders slumped and eyes tightly closed. Seemed like he’d been unmoving for hours. It might be Sam's eyes deceiving him but from the distance Dean looked small and lean and his jaw had turned much more defined. Something clenched in Sam’s heart. Dean didn’t look happy, and it was all because of him.

And suddenly he was moving. Dean shifted and began to lie down, curling up against the glistening, dewy, patchy cut grass. He folded his legs up to his chin and hugged them tightly. Sam’s breath caught. He staggered on his feet.

Come on, Dean, Sam cried silently to himself. You’re stronger than this. You have Lisa. You don’t need me.

A gust of cold wind wheezed and Sam tightened his jacket. He saw Dean shiver and hoped it was because of the wind and not because he was crying.

Sam couldn’t hold back any longer. Walking briskly to where Dean was lying, Sam hesitated a moment before he laid a hand on Dean’s shoulder and waited as it dawned on Dean that someone was there with him.

”Sam?” Dean jumped up, swaying dangerously close to planting his face back on the ground if not for Sam, who immediately grabbed his shoulders. “How - what…?”

But his words were cut out as Sam took him into his arms. “Oh, Dean, I’m so sorry.” Sam couldn’t help but sniffle. “I’ll - I’ll tell you everything but - God, I miss you.”

For one long moment no one talked. They were engulfed in each other in the middle of vast, empty landscape of the cemetery, the wind caressing the arcs of their bodies.
