Jared can't imagine how scary it is to Jensen: a 17-year-old boy about to venture to Hollywood by himself. A boy who’s practically never left his small town and after what his family has done to him, he never goes anywhere without Jared.
“Hey, you’ll be okay. I’m just gonna be a ring away.” Jared hates that the show doesn’t allow the contestants’ families to stay close to them because what’s the point of isolation? On the other hand, Jared won’t be able to leave his study, either. “You’ll be all right, Jen.”
“I’ll be home as soon as I can.”
“Oh no, you won’t. You’re gonna win this and that means you need to stay away for a while. But you’re gonna have fun, I promise you. Before long you’ll be like, who’s Jared?”
Jensen snorts wetly on his shoulder. “No way. No fucking way.”
He’s shaking his head weakly but still doesn’t lift it or look at Jared. They’ve been like that for some time, pressing tight against each other with Jensen clinging to Jared’s neck. They are at the busy DFW airport and people stealing glances around them but Jared can’t bring himself to care, and apparently neither can Jared. Jared tightens his arms around his boyfriend and kisses the top of Jensen’s head, breathing in the scent of his shampoo. Jensen’s flight won’t leave for another hour. If only he knew how hard it is for Jared to let him go.
