Summary: Stranded on a jutted rock on the slope of Mt. Doom, Frodo finally felt safe.
AN: Written for fffc challenge with the prompt homecoming.
Frodo looked deep into Sam’s eyes, cupped his hands on either side of Sam’s face, and felt the filth and grime caked on Sam’s skin and hair - something Frodo barely cared. In his eyes, he only saw the most beautiful hobbit he’d ever known. Gently, he ran his fingers into Sam’s unkempt curls and smoothed Sam’s lower lip with the pad of his thumb. He wiped a pearl of tear that escaped Sam’s lashes.
“Do not cry,” Frodo whispered. “It’s done. We’re both alive. There’s no other place I’d rather be than here. I’m safest when I’m with you, Samwise Gamgee.” Then he pressed their mouths together, their bodies into each other.
He did not hear the sounds of the incensed volcano spewing sizzling molten rocks and burning fumes all around him. He only heard Sam’s heart thumping gently, soothingly, against his.
