"Ionia loves robots," she informed him in an awed whisper.
"I have robots too," Ionia added. "They are not as smart as you, though. You are talking!" He was a talking robot! Somebody had built him a voice! Programmed him to make words and to put them together and to actually understand what people were saying to him! This was a very smart robot.
"Affirmative. I have been programmed with full linguistic capabilities, and have files to communicate in multiple languages," he explained. "Query: You have robots of your own?"
"Yes! Three of them!" Ionia practically beamed with pride at the very mention of them. "There are Clucker and Grounder, who guard my room from bad guys, and then there is F-Zero. He is a robot unicorn and a very good friend and until I have my very own car I drive him instead. None of them can talk, though. I am very good at building things but I am not good at programming, so I do not know how to make them do it."
"I am pleased to meet you too! It is a very special thing to make friends with a robot. If I were not going to be a for-real F-Zero racer when I grew up, I think I would like to be one.

"You are a robot!" Ionia blurted, displaying her dazzling grasp of the obvious.

"Yes please! I would like that very very much! Can you please teach Ioni-- teach me about how to do programming?"
Okay, maybe she wasn't totally grown-up and mature just yet. But robots. Oh gosh.
