So, I had the decision last night to see either Battle Los Angeles or The Adjustment Bureau. In the end I decided to go for something mindless instead of something I might need to pay attention to.
It's totally Independence Day take 2. Aaron Eckhart even has a speech similar to Bill Pullman's president in Independence Day. It's kind of hilarious.
And they even have a disection scene (although without the shock factor) with an alien that looks kind of similar to the aliens in ID4.
There are also those terribly cheesy American patriotic moments such as saluting the American flag. Always make me laugh and roll my eyes *g*
My favourite moment comes when some military person says something like 'we've lost contact with 20 other cities. We cannot lose Los Angeles' because all I want to say is 'think of the actors' in much the same tone as people say 'think of the children'. I just can't help it.
The civilians were totally pointless and just there to give the soldier something to save. And the woman who was with them was even MORE useless and pointless, other than for the whole angsty gazing with Aaron Eckhart's character.
I do have to say, though, the special effects were amazing. Especially watching LA burn and the jets, copters and alien ships flying over LA.
It's also a great film for playing spot the actor. Because, as well as Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez there is Noel Fisher who's been in episodes of The Mentalist, Terriers, Dark Blue and Life, to name only the ones I recognise him from; Jim Parrack who is Hoyt in True Blood; Will Rothhaar who was Will Bedell in Sarah Connor Chronicles and in episodes of The Mentalist and Criminal Minds and, shit, Buffy.
