1) So, Law & Order: UK is on BBC America and they very kindly decided to translate some of what we in the UK say.

My personal favourites are the tea and the scarves. Brilliant. I also enjoy how they translated 'knackers' incorrectly. Knackers are testicles. Trousers are pants. Get it right, people.

1. Even with the error, that skit is damned funny. I never realise how amusing Britspeak can be until I hear it being picked apart like that. They come out with some real classics on that show.

I admit, I thought that was a fan-made piss take at first though.

3. Totally not related to the advert content but that reminded me of a comment one of the visiting American students at our church came out with when I saw him last week - "People only watch the Superbowl for the commercials anyway."

So true.

6. Andy Gray and Andrew Keys are disgusting. The author of that piece is right about one thing though - women do have better things to do than be outraged at the level the press thinks they should be. The sad fact is, most women have learnt to just laugh at offensive sexist crap - largely because it is easier to feign amusement and have a guy shut the fuck up than it is to express annoyance and have to listen to male diatribes about how women should be glad of what they are permitted to have by the patriarchy, and how that is, in fact, way too much.

I spent every day of my working life in male-oriented employment wanting to kick some dickhead in the knackers for sexist jokes, ones straight out of Chubby Brown's playbook. Men in such situations have a really annoying habit of either treating the minority women as: a. a plaything, or b. one of the guys. Heaven forbid you might want to get on with your work and keep your gender identity too.

1) As someone pointed out, maybe they weren't allowed to properly translate that one? *shrugs* But it will confuse many Americans if they think it means pants and use it wrong. God, that could be hilarious *g*

I thought it was a fan piss-take - I was very impressed with how they voiceover sounded so much like the L&O guy and then read that that was because it was him.

3) Commercials and half time show. Of which, the half time show this year was appalling and the commericals were, by all accounts, mediocre at best.

6) It was such an easy thing for the newspapers to get outraged about. Why not get outrage at the causes of sexism and suggest we work hard at eliminating them?

But then, of course, can you actually see The Sun, The Mirror, The Daily Fail etc etc actually, genuinely caring about issues of equality etc? It would probably cut their readership to about 5.

But yeah, I think most women were just eyerolling at how outraged men were getting on our behalf when really, we all suffer worse things on a regular basis.
