[Note: This was something of an epic post but my Internet/laptop is shit and so after typing away for an hour, my screen froze and then I lost all of it. Fuck. So this is much shorter than my previous post. Bugger.]
Okay, so while I think that Boardwalk Empire and Terriers are the best shows of the new season (and I'm sure I'll eventually do posts about how fricking amazing they are)
- I'm not the only person to think that this has been a really mediocre year for tv shows, am I? -
it is Nikita and Hawaii Five-0 that I am enjoying the most in a fluffy/happy kind of way. And out of them it is Hawaii Five-0 that has stolen my fannish heart.
I love this show so damn much. As I have seen mentioned elsewhere, it passes the Bechdel test with flying colours.
(This, if you don't know, is the Bechdel test
1) it includes at least two women, *
2) who have at least one conversation
3) about something other than a man or men.
It is depressing how many films/shows fail to meet it when you really think they should be able to)
You have Nikita and Alex in a mentor/protege relationship. Amanda and Nikita in a kind of mentor/protege relationship and Amanda and Alex in a similar relationship. They have entire conversations where no man is mentioned once. Awesome.
Watching Nikita kick ass really does remind me of watching Buffy. It's very much the same principle, although, as of yet, not done as well (mostly because they don't have a Joss clone).
I have to say though, that I really hope they don't go down the really obvious route of Nikita being the person to have killed Alex's parents. If they do, I hope that Alex already knows and is completely unsurprised when she finds out. Or she pretends she didn't know and it's like a double bluff. Or a triple bluff. I;m confused.
I do like Michael. I am happy that they kept the fact that he does his best to protect the recruits from Percy. He did the same in La Femme Nikita. I'm not sure about the film. I've not seen it yet.
I do kind of love the fact that Amanda is the torturer. I probably shouldn't think that's awesome, but I kind of do.
As much as I love this Birkoff, I do find myself missing the other Birkoff. He was so adorkably brilliant.
Division, though, Division are kind of shit, aren't they? Least subtle secret government agency EVER!
So, Hawaii Five-0 is awesome. It's fun and it's relatively well written. And it's gay. Very gay. There is a part of me that truly wonders how people can read this in any other way. Because. Well, SO DAMN GAY.
But, instead of listening to me ramble on about it, you should go and read
thisissirius's primer
It is a thing of pretty pics, squee and awesomeness Also, I take full responsibility for this because I made Siri watch this when she came over to mine at the weekend and it took her about thirty to forty seconds of seeing Danny and Steve on screen together to understand the level of gay present *G*
Then, go and marvel at
lamardeuse's episode recaps.
They are freaking awesome Then you should read all the fic on
thisissirius's primer and those on
leupagus's
rec list And I have to say that EVERYONE has to read
this by
leupagus. She wrote it from a prompt I gave her and it involves Kono teaching Grace to surf, Danny having a panic attack and Steve being, well, very Steve about the whole thing *g* It is SO my happy place at the moment.
And seriously, if you aren't watching this show but love just how text the subtext is in shows like Merlin, NCIS:LA and SGA...and NCIS, really, then you'll love this.
Now I am posting this before my Internet/laptop craps out on me again.
