ComicCon: Friday

Aug 17, 2010 16:29

So, despite only really caring about seeing two panels in Ballroom 20 on Friday, I got there ridiculously early so that I actually got in the room, meaning I had to sit through the SG:U panel and the Caprica one.

I have no problem with Caprica, other than the fact I've not found time to watch it. On the plus side, Ron Moore was there and he's always bitingly sarcastic and James Marsters was there, which was kind of awesome.

Obviously, I didn't give much of a damn about SG:U, but here are a few things I noted

- compared to the joint SG-1/SGA panel of 2008 and SGA panel of 2009, the SG:U panel of 2010 got a very muted response. In the other panels you were literally deafened as the name of the show was announced and then as the cast made their way on stage, not so here.

- Robert Carlyle got quite a good response but David Blue's was the biggest, which isn't surprising because he is a sweetie. Why, oh, why does who I'd actually enjoy listening to have to be on a show I hate?

- And, uh, surely having a creator of the show doing the moderating is cheating?

- I know this is no longer news, but I'm honestly not surprised that Woolsey and McKay are the two SGA characters returning. They would possibly be the only ones that make sense. Jason is just a little busy. Joe hasn't said a kind word about those at Bridge Studios since they fucked over SGA.

- You have no idea how tempted I was to go and ask why, after insisting that they weren't going to bring in any SGA characters, they were doing just that. The only thing stopping me was the fact that I remember that being said, just not by who or where.

- Apparently Robert Carlyle is directing an episode at the beginning of the second series and it's set mostly on Earth. I thought this was a show about people trapped on a spaceship they couldn't deviate from it's original course. Am I wrong?

The Big Bang Theory panel was awesome, Bones, not so much

Wil Wheaton moderated and Evil Wil Wheaton should be returning to the show

He suggested that the audience have a little sing along to the theme of The Big Bang Theory, but he thought it might be a bit awesome if The Barenaked ladies sang it with us

This was more than a little awesome. Even with my totally fucked voice I was able to sing along. Just.

Creators Bill Prady (who is hilarious on Twitter) and Chuck Lorre, who I think is awesome because of his rants at the end of each episode.

When asked if they would do a ComicCon episode, Chuck Lorre said that TBBT is an indoor cat and it just wouldn't work.

And now, the cast...

Kaley spoke a bit about how since The Big Bang Theory is filmed near the WB museum and it houses a lot of the Harry Potter props, she tried on the Sorting hat. I think it was Jim who said she was sorted into Slytherin, and she was all 'No I wasn't. No, I think maybe I was.' It was very funny and very sweet.

These two photos of Jim and Kaley are just too cute

I have no idea what Simon was doing or talking about and despite the slight blur, there was no way I could get rid of this photo

Bones was...an bizarre panel. It was awesome seeing david Borenaz, since I've wanted to see him for years and last year he had to cancel because his wife was about to give birth any minute.

But the panel itself seemed to be all about whether or not Bones and Booth were going to get together. The only time the other characters were mentioned was when a fan asked a question about Angel and Hodge. That was it. Oh, and Sweets got a mention, too. And while I'm at it, it would be nice to see some of the other actors at the panel, too. If it's working commitments or they don't want to do it, that's fine, but if not, then get them there too. I, for one, got VERY bored listening to David, Emily and Hart go on and on about how Booth and Bones feel about each other and where it's (not) going to go.

I don't get the point of the creator and actors obsessing over whether or not the two main characters are going to get together when we know that it won't happen until near the end of the show. And the show is about more than Booth and Bones getting together.

The only really funny bit was when Emily asked the room who wanted to see Bones and Booth get together and there was a big cheer. Then she asked who didn't want to see them get together and there was a very muted cheer. David then piped up with 'And who frankly doesn't care?' That got a big cheer. Not as big as them getting together, but significantly bigger than the idea of them not getting together.

If you're interested I was in the group who frankly doesn't give a damn.

Oh, and when Hart said they were thinking of doing a 3D episode it got roundly booed and all three of them looked really surprised. I dunno why, the majority of 3D films have been fucking dreadful.

The Joss Whedon Experience was next, but there are no photos because it was only him, I've seen him before and he doesn't really change from year to year.

Joss talked about a lot of stuff, but the only thing I actually remember is him saying that it was time that he had some guy on guy action in his next comic. That got a massive cheer. Not unsurprisingly.

convention:comiccon, show:bones, show:big bang theory, tv:joss whedon
