To some degree this is all about books...and TV...

Feb 03, 2010 19:11

You know, this whole not being on the Internet during the work day thing is bloody difficult, you know.

So, you know how I have this idea that before I buy any more books, I would finish the...I don't know how many sitting in my spare room waiting to be read?

Yeah, well, that's just been shot all to hell. I've just pre-ordered a bunch of books either from the bookshop or through amazon.com. Whoops. On the slightly plus side, none of them will arrive before April so I've still got time to read some of my backlist, as it were.

(let's not mention the books I have at the bookshop that are waiting for me to take them home. Until they are home, they don't count *nods*

Books I have pre-ordered include:-

- Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs
- Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead (blue_succubus)
- Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews ilona_andrews) [Which reminds me, I should really order the first three for myself, since the friend who lent them to me is coming around this weekend and book swappage is going to be done)
- Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris
- Black Magic Sanction by Kim Harrison

I still need to pre-order the newest Kelley Armstrong books and the latest Harry Dresden book, which is possibly one of the books I am most excited about this year.

I managed to hit my quota of reading four fiction books this month with about two hours to spare, so, yay me *g*

One of the reasons I love working in a bookshop is the fact that we get proofs through and I can often read books I've been looking forward to, months in advance. This is one such time *g*

So, Havoc is the sequel to Malice, which was possibly one of my all time favourite books of 2009.

While Havoc isn't quite as awesome Malice, it's still brilliant and once I was into it I couldn't put it down.

I reckon these ones are better than his Broken Sky trilogy (despite the fact that I believe The first one in the series - The Twilight War - is possibly one of the best beginnings of a trilogy ever) because it feels like he's thought about the overall arc of the story and how everything is going to fit together, something I didn't feel in the last Broken Sky book which had some very bizarre things happen that I wasn't at all prepared for.

The comic sections of the book are wonderfully drawn and as I approach each one I get excited because I know the comic parts only occur when something big or important is happening.

As much as I love Seth and Kady, I think my favourite character is Tatyana, the clockwork sabretooth tiger (come on, tell me you don't want to read a couple of books that have a clockwork sabretooth tiger in them)

I honestly don't know if there is going to be a sequel to this, but it works as a proper ending or as a lead in to another book. Either way, I'm happy.

I have two more Chris Wooding books to read - Poison and The Fade. Then I fear I will be buying every one of his books I can. This is one of the many perils of working in a bookshop (and one I am willing to face on a daily basis)

Tonight I can hopefully finish Heat Wave by Richard Castle *G* and then I've got City of masks all set up and ready to go.

I take it everyone has seen the latest epic fail from Amazon? Talk about a bully throwing his toys out of the pram.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here are some links to various people who can explain it way better than me...

Amazon Capitulated My Ass

Amazon, Macmillan: an outsider's guide to the fight

his weekend, Amazon more or less “de-friended” one of the six big US publishers, Macmillan

And everyone needs to read the Amazon response and marvel at this sentence we will have to capitulate and accept Macmillan's terms because Macmillan has a monopoly over their own titles

Tim Riggins continues to break my heart. Also, Julie and matt also took time out to stomp on it as well.

I love that Tim took Becky to see Tami. Love it. Love it. Love it.

Less love the fact that Luke's mom then tried to get Tami fired, and, god, I terrified about how this is all going to blow up now that the papers have the story. Because, really, who's going to care about a little thing called the truth when sensationalism is so much more fun?

Also, I hope that Tim and Becky finally, eventually get it together. Not even necessarily in the show. Just eventually. I love Becky so much. And I love that I final love the girl who holds his attention because, man, I couldn't stand Lyla.

Poor Vince. I have nothing else. Just poor Vince.

And does that mean it's the game against the Panthers in this episode? Because, really, I'm going to be cheering the Lions SO hard when it is.

I don't know that it's possible of me to love this show more.

I died laughing when Neal assured Mozz that the dog hadn't been bugged and Mozz yells back 'Amateurs!'

I'm not the only one who loves Agent Shaw, am I? Because love him I do.

Also, I think Kristin Kreuk has proven that she's not a awful actress, just that Smallville is shite.

And Casey being Morgan's 2nd was hilarious and I loved it *g*

Also, has everyone seen the remarkably predictable Oscar nominations this year?

However, there are some good ones

Yay for Jeremy Renner getting the nomination for Best Actor. My fingers will so be crossed for him. As they will be for Kathryn Bigelow to get Best Director.

I really hope Christoph Waltz wins for Best Supporting Actor for Inglorious Basterds because he was awesome.

Now I have to go out in the pouring rain. I am very unamused since it only just started to rain about five minutes ago. I swear it only starts raining as I'm about to leave the shop. It's a conspiracy, I tell you.
