So, I only just watched the last episode of Supernatural aired before Chirstmas. I have no idea how I missed it.
You poor, poor thing. I knew your time in hell wasn’t going to have been fun, but damn, honey
I thought Jensen did a really good job of showing how much what he did torments him
And Sam just sitting there, letting Dean talk it out and rubbing away his tears
I did like that Dean listened to Angel!girl and took the help being offered to him by Sam
I still love and adore Castiel. He’s all kinds of awesome. I did like Uriel telling Dean that Castiel likes him *g*
And what an awesome plan they came up with - I was really worried that Ruby was really betraying them, but I need not have worried
I’m still not a huge fan of new Ruby, but she’s growing on me
I mean, it was a bit predictable - It’s suggested by both Tony and Ziva that Probie isn’t exactly forceful and so he gets to prove himself
As soon as Gibbs was looking between Tony and Ziva, deciding who was going to the prison, you knew he was going to chose McGee
Abby is the only person who could stand in front of Gibbs and demand and answer. I love her for it so much.
Ziva promising to kick the women’s asses if they hurt McGee, that was lovely
I’m glad we’re over the whole ‘spy’ thing, although I love Vance and want him around a bit more. The team always gets more interesting when Vance is about
And I love Tony babbling after suggesting that the women might like having him around because he’s a pretty face and he could make them talk and Gibbs just giving him a look, and Tony being all ‘but you could, because, you know, you’re the boss.’ So funny.
So, I just found some old, half-written fan fiction last night. All from 2006. I read through them, and I’m now sorely tempted to write them properly
The first was a Harry/Draco fic set after the war. It was supposed to be written for
harry_holidays in 2006. First it got wiped off my old, old computer and I was rewriting it when I broke my ankle. I was pretty much cursed while writing it. I then thought I'd lost the story and I've just found it.
Reading through what I thought happened before the disappointing seventh book, I think my version is much better. My tenses are so fucked up and I need to make it so much better, but I kind of love it.
The next was a crossover between Veronica Mars/Superman Returns. Veronica ends up in the Superman Returns universe (body-swapping with another version of herself) and meets Clark Kent.
Another was a story where Dr Who (Ten) and Rose turn up in Veronica Mars and meet Logan Echolls. I didn't get much further than that, to be honest.
And finally there was one where a werewolf is in the Battlestar Galactica fleet.
If anyone could find a tear in the fabric of time and space, so I can step out and write them without losing any other time, that would be awesome
So, this morning I decided to start re-watching Merlin. I’m through episodes 1-3 and I still love and adore them *g*
I love how Merlin is walking around Camelot with a huge grin on his face and this look of wonder, and then he comes back down to reality with a horrible bump
‘When I came to this land’ - so Uther came from somewhere else, then?
Bumbling Merlin when Gaius is quizzing him about magic is hilarious. God, he really is a terrible liar, isn’t he?
So Hunith knows Gaius did magic - I want that story
Ah, Morgana, getting to the crux of the problem - ‘the more brutal you are, the more enemies you make.’
‘We’ll have to keep you out of trouble’ *snort* Oh, Gaius if only you knew
Merlin and Arthur meeting for the first time still fills me with an unholy amount of glee
I know I shouldn’t find it so amusing, how Arthur acts, but I do
Bradley James does a wonderful just of making Arthur likeable while having him act like a complete arse
Merlin’s first time in the stocks - get used to it, you’ll be there a lot
Gwen and Merlin’s first conversation is adorable and hilarious
And that fight with Arthur - brilliant
I do love how, when Arthur says ‘you can’t talk to me like that’ he sounds more confused than insulted
OMG - can you imagine if Uther did remarry? Or at least started to fall in love? A) Scary B) How would Arthur act out?
You know, if your dice start inexplicably moving, perhaps following them isn’t the wisest of courses. Just a suggestion.
It’s quite something to hear that it’s your destiny to protect someone who you just saw bullying someone and who had you thrown in the dungeons, isn’t it?
I love how Gaius admonished Merlin for gawping at Morgana
Again, I love Gwen, and how she just keeps digging herself in deeper and deeper as she talks to Merlin and how Merlin just finds it amusing and endearing
The look of horror on the boys faces when Uther rewards Merlin is hilarious and I find it so funny that Uther thinks it’s a brilliant idea and is quite pleased with himself
Gwen has this look on her face that just says ‘oh no, this can’t end well’
This is why I love the all the stories that involve Arthur and Merlin training - it’s hilarious. And Arthur gives Merlin a backhanded compliment - ‘You’re braver than you look’
Merlin gritting his teeth as he says ‘yes, sire,’ is hilarious, and then Arthur yelling at him - he doesn’t get nervous before a tournament, only cranky, evidently
So what does Arthur do with all that money?
Poor Arthur, there is nothing like parental pressure to do well, is there?
Merlin cheering Arthur on is wonderful
And they share a joke and Arthur thaws a little and then remembers he shouldn’t. I wish they’d shown more of that - Arthur and Merlin in that place of not liking each other and thawing at different rates and for different reasons
And then, after Merlin’s dressed him for the tournament, Arthur is a lot less snappish and is obviously reoccupied with the tournament
I do like them showing how loved Arthur is by the people of Camelot. They don’t really do that in any of the other episodes
Who leaves a door open when feeding snakes on a magical shield? That’s just sloppy, Valiant
And Arthur’s slightly lost and pissed off look when Uther suggests Valiant stays in Camelot after the tournament. I’d forgotten how much this episode was about Arthur’s daddy issues
Merlin looks so surprised that Arthur believes him and I think that might be the first time he realises the kind of man Arthur can be
And Morgana looking worried about Arthur after he calls the court
Oh, Arthur - having your father say those things to you in front of the court, you poor thing
No wonder you take it out on Merlin - of course, Merlin doesn’t understand the relationship between Arthur and Uther yet, and so he doesn’t understand why Arthur hits out like he does
But Arthur still believes him, of course
And Merlin begins to understand something about Arthur and how seriously Arthur takes his responsibilities and duty
This isn’t just about Arthur’s daddy issues, it’s about what makes Arthur who he is, the kind of man he is under the snark, sarcasm and pratliness
Clever use of Arthur’s old manservant
I do love that moment of quiet between Morgana and Arthur - that you do see that despite all the sniping, they do love each other
And damn, but is Arthur a good fighter, a really good fighter and I love how, once everyone knows Valiant cheated, he dispatches him in about three stokes. Really, Valiant, you thought you could beat Prince Arthur
Of course, Morgana and Arthur’s quiet moment couldn’t last very long and they are back to bickering
And again they show a difference between Arthur and Uther - Arthur apologises - kind of
Arthur and Merlin may not a huge number of scenes together but the ones they do are great
Arthur being all resigned that Merlin will be late and having to go and find his servant and then seeing the flower
And then the cupboard scene - oh, but that was love *g*
So, this episode would be about Merlin learning about the responsibilities of using his magic and unforeseen consequences
And about showing that Uther does care about his kingdom and isn’t a complete bastard
Why did Merlin not think that perhaps going and retrieving the poultice might have been a good idea?
I love Arthur in this, where he tries to reason with Uther - how he talks about the kind of Camelot he wants and how he’s becoming his own man, with his own ideas. He stands up to his father, despite the fact that it will bring him into conflict with Uther
Morgana standing up to Uther is always fabulous to watch
I love the look on Arthur’s face when Merlin says it was him
Arthur just casting around trying to find a reason why Merlin is being such an idiot
And I love the way Arthur calls Merlin an idiot and tells him he’s not the sorcerer
Ah, so this is the episode with the line about them being two sides of the same coin
I do so love how Morgana gets Arthur to do what she wants and how Arthur knows he’s being manipulated, but also knows he’ll get no peace until he relents
‘Perhaps that’s because I’ve not sound the right person to love’ - interesting that they went with ‘person’ and not ‘woman’ Arthur’s playing the pronoun name *g*
And seriously, I do love that long coat Arthur wears - *is shallow*
Oh, and, uh, I know so many slashers are going to hate me, but in this episode Arthur and Merlin wear their red shirts at the same time on screen - in conclusion, there are two shirts, not one *is sad*
I would watch more tomorrow night, but I'll be going up to London with my cousin for the Merlin meet-up, which I'm very much looking forward to. Oh, and does anyone want to swap phone numbers if they get to London early, since i'll be around from whenever I get up.
