1) So, I posted the majority of my cards last week. Even considering how early I posted them, it's entitely possible that if you live in the US or Canada, then you'll be getting a New Year card instead of a Christmas one. Sorry about that.
I've still got about ten to post. Of course, now I seem to have put the cards somewhere and I can't find them *facepalm* I will find them. So it is entirely possible that others of you will be getting New Year cards instead of Christmas cards as well.
It'd be great if people could let me know if/when you get your card, just so I know it all worked.
2) I've been reading books again. My brain is feeling better. Until Wedensday last week I hadn't read a book for over a month. This is possibly the longest I've ever gone without reading a book in my life. I've now rectified that.
I read the new Jim Butcher book - book five in the Alera Codex series -
Princep's Fury Uh, wow. I can't wait until the next book. This one was brilliant. I loved it.
The last book - Captain's Fury - I found just a bit slow in some places and was eager to leave some storylines and catch up with others. I did not have this problem with this book. I wanted to read it all at the same time.
Isana was awesome and rocked. I loved how she got Raucus to move his forces.
I honestly thought, for a moment, that Amara was screwed but then when the twist was revealled I was cheering. And Bernard is the most awesome husband ever.
I will admit to crying to when Gaius died. But bloody hell - I bet that was one sight to see.
I really kind of like Aquitaine and hope he looks after Tavi's birthright until he gets back and then hands it back. I have a feeling it's not going to be all that simple though. I did love finding out why he and Raucus hate Gaius so much.
Max and Crassus still continue to be two of my favourites. And I'm not the only one who really rather likes Varg, am I? I really don't want him and Tavi to end up having to fight to the death ornathing thing like that.
I can't wait to see what Alera wants with Tavi.
And what is everyone going to say when Tavi turns up with more Canim?
And how are they going to defeat the Vord (who, by the way, really freak me out)
What really scares me is that at least one of Tavi's cloest friends has got to die in the next book, right? I don't want that to happen. I know that someone important dies in each book, but I'm terrified that lots of my favourites are going to die in the next book.
I mean, I cried when Isana got stabbed and then when Gaius died, so god only knows what I'll be like in any of my favourite characters die - and that is a long list. I love a lot of Jim Butcher's characters. I won't be able to cope if any one of at least ten characters dies.
I read a proof of a book that is being released next year, called
Malice by Chris Wooding. I'm not going to say much about it, but I do thoroughly recommend reading it when it comes out. It's very clever and very funny and just generally really well written.
Then there was
Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead.
Bloody hell. That ending. Fuck. Me. That was...I can't quite find the words to describe how much I wasn't expecting that. I knew the ending was shocking, but, fuck, she killed Dimitri. But she didn't. She turned him into a strigoi.
Please tell me that we're going to find out that there is another twist to it. I'll totally and utterly cry like a baby. I already cried at the end of Shadow Kiss. Please don't let that be true - or let there be a way for her and Dimitri to be together *bites her fingernails*
Then there was
The Seer and the Sword Victoria Hanley manages to create an epic story without having to write 1000 pages of plot. I really kind of love her writing.
Finally there is
The Warrior's Path by Maya Snow.
Maya Snow, same as Chris Bradford with
Young Samurai, manage to describe so much of Japanese culture without making it sound like a classroom lesson (although, to be fair, if I'd ever had a class on Samurai, I'd have loved it). You learn so much in amongst all the plot and story. Utterly fabulous. I recommend both of them. Actually, Young Samuari is one of my favourite 9-12 children's books of this year.
Now I'm going to be read the Young Bond books and Kevin Holland-Crossley's books about King Arthur.
I counted the number of books in my guest room, waiting to be read. There are over 100. I think, even with the speed at which I read, that's going to take me a bit of time to get through. Especailly if I keep buying new books. All the books I've read this last week, have been new books. Whoops.
3) I'm watching the Royal Variety Show. Why does Jimmy fucking Tarbuck have to do a skit every time. He's not funny anymore.
I'm falling more and more in love with Take That each time I hear them sing. And Gary Barlow is definitely one of those men who gets better looking with age.
And these were two of Jimmy Carr's funniest jokes:-
'When America invaded Iraq America little did George Bush know...'
'When President Bush leaves office, he's going to dedicate the next few years to finishing his book. He can't believe that caterpillar is still that hungry.'
4) I found out when I will and won't be working over Christmas. I have Wedensday Dec 24th to Tuesday Dec 30th off and then New Years Day and then back to normal. Six days uninterrupted *g* Awesome.
5) I have several fics I want to work on while I'm not at work. At least two McShep and five (I think) Merlin/Arthur. I have stuff to do *g*
6) I'm going to go home and finally watch Bradley James and Colin Morgan on Something for the Weekend and then Bradley in Dis/connected. Yay!
7) Which Dr Who episode was Colin Morgan in? I know it's title, but I honestly can't remember which one it is. I want to work out if I've seen it or not.
8) I'm starting to think about going to ComicCon 2009.
