And it has nothing to do with christmas.
No, nothing as tacky, but maybe just as expensive.
I'm going to ask my girlfriend to marry me.
I just need a couple of rings.
First of all, I've already decided on the look of the wedding ring.
It's going to be a simple braid of gold, silver and platinum (alternatively electrum), representing the union between me, her and God (as we're both spiritually inclined people), probably embedded upon a rail of gold to get a flat surface on the inside. I don't know if the individual threads should be twisted, or two twisted threads to make it appear more like rope, or not, but so far so good.
Now, the thing I'm currently thinking about is the engagement ring, which I want to be something special, but not too elaborate, since we're both of simple tastes.
As material, I'm thinking either white gold, or even more interesting, titanium (to represent durability).
I want two (or three) stones, one diamond and one (or two) sapphires.
This because they both symbolize love, fidelity, eternity, etc, and they go great together on a silver white background.
I'm not sure on the ornamentation of the ring itself, which is sort of why I turn here, for some creative input from you people if you have minute. ;-)
Since I'm, as you might have guessed, a person who is very keen on "symbology", I've been pondering different designs and symbols to include in a tasteful manner.
For example, the infinity symbol or the Taiji.
I know she's keen on celtic patterns and such and that might be a lovely way to hold the stones.
If any romantic out there have any ideas, designs or thoughts to share, I'm all ears. :-)
girlfriend,
