I never had one of those...but then again, this is from the person who read Paradise Lost at 14. My parents kept up with my reading until I was 10-11, and after that, unless I found a good mystery for Mom or a new historical accounting for Dad, we didn't talk much about what I was reading
I can remember in High School there being a big stink about Stephen King being allowed in the school library, and Mom asked me if I read them. I told her I had read a couple of the older ones, but the newer stuff was too hard to read. Not for content, but because of the grammatical and typographical. errors.
