What is the single most precious thing you've ever given away?
My life. In my line of work the risk of death is always a possibility. When you're a warrior in the heat of battle, you pledge your sword and your life to the cause you're fighting for. When you're a hero dedicated to helping others, your life belongs to them. That's what Hercules does every single day. He risks himself for others, facing almost impossible odds without hesitation or regret. How can I do any less?
Did you ever wonder who protects Hercules? No one, right? You're wondering why he would need protection. He's the son of Zeus! Half god, half mortal, with the strength of 20 men. He can take care of himself. But even the mighty Hercules needs someone to watch his back. That someone's me. I might not have any special powers or amazing strength, but I'm quick on my feet and I know how to fight. And I'd gladly die so that Hercules could live.
In fact, I have died trying to protect him. More than once. How could I do any less when I know he'd do the same for me? My life isn't important. The world won't miss Iolaus of Thebes. But it would miss Hercules and the great good he has yet to do.
