Alec knew the answer like he knew the back of his hand. Too often he had heard the sentence in dreams, a menacing voice mumbling it in the dark until he realised it belonged to his long dead father. This sentence carried nothing but dread. But this was the moment of decision, a decision that his life had centered around for more years than he would have liked to admit. The words fitted the dangerous atmosphere and poured from his lips like water to a thirsty throat.
He pushed Q's decoder into the security slid controlling the door. And yet his finger lingered over the panel and he hesitated to make the fatal move that would ring the alarms.
