So, apparently Gap, Inc. uses a contracted third party to handle their hiring applications and hiring data. Fine, no big deal, they're contracted. Well, in September, two laptops were stolen from the offices of said third party. Why does this matter to me, you ask?
Because those laptops contained personal information, including NAMES and SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS of associates. And, because it's not bad enough, none of the information was encrypted, even though the contract clearly stated that it should have been.
Freaking fantastic.
Identity theft was NOT on my list of things to do today.
