I know this situation comes up often in the medical world and I wonder what you guys think about it.

Which is better?  A terminal disease that slowly worsens over a long span of time, or a treatment that gets rid of the disease, doubling the lifespan of the patient, but has a good chance (read 80% or greater) of killing the patient in the process of treatment.

I sincerely don't know what I would do.
