(Someday I'll learn to write in something other than an academic tone, but for now I'll subject you to this boring list of occurances this past weekend.)
It's nearly 6 in the morning and I'm not in the least bit tired, hence the subject line.
I've spent a quite enjoyable night here at the apartment this evening. First Nick decided he wanted to play poker, so we invited him over and started playing. Brian showed up a little while later, and we all played a few hands together. For the first time ever, I came out on the up side this time when it was all said and done. Doug decided that he had nothing to do tomorrow and was going to drink a bit. Brian and I decided to join him, and so it began. Brian's stomach didn't like the vodka, and he quit early and went on home to get some rest before class tomorrow. Doug and I continued and played a few drinking games. We played some modified shot chess, and then I got my first try at quarters. Afterwords, we created a new game based on Egyptian Rat Screw. Certainly not a game to be played by few people. We both had quite a bit in us before that one ended. We watched some Star Trek when we were finished, and then Doug went to bed and now I'm here.
I got reminded of a line from a guest star in one of the Star Trek episodes this weekend. "Every moment of pleasure must be payed for by an equal moment of pain." On Saturday, I made some very good tips, but oh did I pay for it. The owner showed up, and decided we needed to run a special to get our sales up. He sent out flyers all the past week saying $4.99 for a large 1 topping on Saturday before 8:00PM (carry-out only). Now, I've worked in that store for over a year and a half, and I've never seen over 150 orders in a night. That day, we had over 500 orders, and most of them were for pick-up. That means no tips, no mileage, no money for Iohnus. Thank the gods it was a late game and people went crazy for pizza after it, or I would have to had to remove some limbs after that shift. He ruined everything in that store, turned all our procedures upside down, and then yelled at us when the numbers didn't meet his expectations. A man like that should not be allowed in those stores. Thankfully he left just before the game ended, or we would have all forcibly removed him from the store ourselves. At least I made some money that night, but I was so happy to be home.
Of course, I only came home for about 15 minutes because after that I went out to meet Brian and Andrew out at a campsite they were at near the lake. It was a wonderful night, spent trading stories around a fire and listening to the water hitting the shore. They both went to sleep around 3, but I stayed up for a while longer and just enjoyed the warmth of the fire and the tranquility of the water. I'll have to do that again another time.
Well, there's not much else to report, so I guess I'll sign off and leave you all to read this at your convenience. Good night, all.
