CHARACTER
» Name: Portgas D. Ace. Aka Fire-Fist.
» Fandom: One Piece
» References you can use:
http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Ace» Canon Point: For Ubau: Ace is from before his fight with Blackbeard, and right after his side-story when he finds out that
Note: Manga is primary source always for me but anime is very largely incorporated even though it's "filler" I also use the Ace side story quite a bit and flashbacks even though they're not in the anime.
» Gender: Male
» Age: 20. His birthday is 1/1 (January first)
» Sexual Orientation: He's more likely to playfully flirt with girls than guys, but he's much more likely to wind up in a gay relationship and be completely carefree about it. [Dating Smoker in BP, he's a little shy about it mostly just because the guy is a marine and uh Smoker is crazy possessive which Ace enjoys, but he doesn't want people getting punched.]
» Appearance: Floppy black hair, freckles, brown eyes. 6'1" and muscular. Ace hates T-shirts. He will wear a jacket on a winter island, but only so it's not completely obvious. He has a big purple tattoo of Whitebeard's crossed bones jolly roger on his back. (Using the anime one because Oda switched to it as well) He has his name ACE spelled on his arm but spelled as "ASCE" with the S crossed out. He has three versions he'll tell people if you ask why. It just depends on his mood/how much he likes you. Mine still has the bright orange hat he lost in the fight with Blackbeard because pfft >> it's the one from his grave :|. He wears shorts with a bright orange belt with an "A" buckle. Red beaded necklace around the neck, a red and white bracelet and log pose. A long knife in a bright green sheath (also lost to the grave, but mine still currently has.) And a blue waterbottle/canteen. He likes colors. (My Ace hates black. He always shies from black clothes when he has the chance and likes to blind people with ridiculous clothing color choices.)
» Fighting Ability: A mera mera no mi user, Ace is fire logia and can turn completely into fire and control it. He's extremely strong, held his own against Smoker, and was invited to be a shichibukai even before he joined the Whitebeard pirates and he only got stronger and much more control since then. In flashbacks he's seen wielding a giant axe as a weapon at one point but against Smoker and Blackbeard Ace relied mostly on his devil fruit. He has probably been taught some fighting techniques by Garp.
Fighting Weakness: Ocean, seastone and my Ace hates rain. A lot. He doesn't mind snow but he has to be very careful with control in it and can't ice skate heh. Ace has a tendency to rush first and realize problems later and this recklessness got him tossed in the ocean a lot (he got fished out.) He also goes very big very fast and burns out quickly because of it so outlasting him would be a pretty key way to defeat him.
If you really want to hurt him, a friend stabbing him in the back would cut deepest, but he will never EVER forget it. And not really forgive it much either.
» Personality/Background: Extremely unfailingly loyal, Ace will do anything for someone he cares a lot about. He will defend Whitebeard and Whitebeard's crew to the death and cares a lot about his little brother. However, he's very reckless and even years of being told to "cool off" hasn't changed this too much. He rushes into fights without thinking through the consequences and punches first and realizes the problems later. This gets him and everyone he loves into trouble, but they stick by him nonetheless, and while he gets guilty feeling over it, they usually try to protect him from that too (such as well the Whitebeard Crew insisted that they told him to go after Teach even though they actually told him not to.)
He's fiery in attitude as well as physically, temperamental like wildfire. He can be warm and inviting or flare up without much warning at the slightest provocation and attack.
He's extremely polite even at weird times (being launched through several buildings but he stops in his stepping through rubble to kick the launcher's ass in order to apologize for interrupting a family's dinner) but he's still a pirate and reckless so has a habit of eat'n'runs and attacked a doctor thinking it was Blackbeard (kick first; go "OH SHIT I MESSED UP" later). He has a tendency to mooch a little (Buggy), but still offered to do dishes for Sanji (in the anime).
He doesn't hate marines (see Garp) and will even rescue them from burning ships even though it blew his cover. He has his own very strong sense of right and wrong just like Luffy does but wants to be free to be his own man.
A little bit of a goof-ball sometimes, he takes a joke really well so long as it doesn't insult his friends. He makes friends VERY easily (just look at all the people trying to rescue him 2000+) and yet is still very generous/giving to all of them. He's laid back and takes most things in stride, but he's thoroughly unforgiving on big betrayals or anything insulting someone he loves. He has a tendency to get it into his head that the world works a certain way and that's just the way it is (childish though it may be) and has to be ultimately shown that he's wrong and the world doesn't work that way. When he does realize he's wrong, he copes well and attempts to move on with the new information, but it usually takes something fairly huge to change his mind. (Such as the whole situation in Marineford with his crew and allies rescuing him)
Despite being a pirate he's relatively soft-hearted for one. He apologizes for things that aren't his fault and saves the lives of men trying to kill him. He doesn't fight back civilians even if they try to drown him and throw him in a river. However, should someone try to hurt someone he loves (Luffy, his crew) he will do anything to protect them and as a kid used to pick fights with older gangs and even tried to kill them. Once he feels betrayed, he doesn't forget, he doesn't forgive, and he completely obsesses over it. (Blackbeard.) This obsessiveness can make him a great friend because he doesn't forget a single act of kindness, or a terrible enemy. Either way he won't let go of it even if he tries to take it with a smile.
Important canon relationships
- Luffy. His brother though not blood. (You will not be told IC the not blood part from Ace since he doesn't think it matters and won't ever bring up Gold Roger.) He loves Luffy probably the most of everyone and trusts him a ton, would do anything he asked etc. My Ace is still dealing with the guilt over being rescued and Luffy almost dying from it.
- Luffy's crew. In manga they aren't together much more than a simple introduction so I rely on the anime a lot for this. He considers them near family and is grateful they look after Luffy (he feels his brother needs it for being an idiot.)
- Whitebeard. The other "most." Despite past history of trying to kill Whitebeard (why so crazy Ace? @_@) probably as an attempt to prove he was better than Gold Roger (that's a guess on my part) he now loves Whitebeard like a father. He insists Whitebeard IS his father. He loves him to pieces, would die for him, insists he's the greatest man who ever lived etc. My Ace is also dealing with guilt/gratitude regarding WB coming to rescue Ace too despite being sick. Because of canon and worries WB won't live, Marco's mun and I are playing it that WB is there and behind the scenes and that if WB does die, WB's crew is currently worried enough about Ace post-arc to not tell Ace the truth right away so that Ace doesn't go crazy and do something really reckless again.
- Marco the Phoenix. 1st division commander of Whitebeard's Crew. (Ace is 2nd division commander.) Marco is shown taking Ace under his wing metaphorically and teaching crazy!angry!I still want to kill Whitebeard!Ace the ropes. He was one of Ace's first and closest friends in the crew and is largely believed to be one of the people who most mellowed Ace into the little bit more sanity he displays now. Under Whitebeard's orders he helped protect Luffy and as of 568, Marco came the closest to successfully getting to Ace first (except stopped by Garp and then Kizaru again.) Because Marco is a phoenix and Ace is fire their devil fruit mesh well and Marco taught Ace a lot of control tricks and Ace is the only person who can really safely ride on Marco flying.
----- SECRET relationship (spoilers for recent arc) -- Gol D. Roger. Ace's biological father and the first King of the Pirates. Ace hates him. A lot. Gold Roger gave Ace to Garp to protect from the marines/raise because he said a baby shouldn't be held responsible for the sins of the father. Ace will never tell you Gold Roger is his Dad unless you a) know already and call him on it (and he might bite you and go on a "WHITEBEARD IS MY FATHER!! >:|" rage) b) have known him for years c) Saved his life even knowing this (See current arc) -----
- Vice Admiral Garp. Ace's grandfather although not biologically (see also Luffy). Garp tried to convince Ace to be a marine and raised him with fists of love trying to beat the pirate out of him. Despite this crazy, Ace tends to like him a bit more than Luffy likes Garp and feels a pretty big chunk of gratitude that Garp protected his mother enough that he lives and helped hide him from the marines until he ran off on his own. In current arc (spoilers) Garp sits with Ace during the execution and fights off Marco from rescuing him but (at least) my Ace is of the belief that Garp just did what he felt he really had to and doesn't hold a large grudge over this. (He DOES understand why his crew would though)
- Portgas D. Rouge. His Mom. Also a D. SPOILERS: she kept him in her womb for 20 months so that he wouldn't be killed by the marines for being Gold Roger's son. Because of this he feels he owes her a great deal and keeps her name in tribute. My Ace will say his politeness/sense of manners comes form her
- Thatch. WAS the 4th division commander of Whitebeard's Crew and one of the early people to befriend Ace in the crew. Blackbeard killed Thatch to get the devil fruit that Thatch had a right to, which started the whole chain of events.
- Blackbeard aka Marshall D. Teach. He was in the 2nd division of Whitebeard's crew (Ace's division) and even though Ace originally suggested he take the division commander position he refused, preferring instead as everyone later agreed; to hide in he shadows. He killed Thatch to get the darkness devil fruit and then split from the Whitebeard Crew. One of the very first laws of piracy on the Grand Line is you do not kill one of Whitebeard's crew mates or he WILL hunt you down and kill you yet WB, Marco and the other crew members told Ace to let Blackbeard go. Ace took off alone anyway to get revenge. After searching several islands for him and even sneaking into a marine information base, Ace caught up with Blackbeard on Banaro Island. They dueled and Blackbeard offered to have Ace join him instead and also mentioned that he was planning to turn Luffy in for Luffy's bounty. Ace lost the fight and Blackbeard turned him over to the marines to become a shichibukai. "Ace hates him" scratches the surface.
- Jinbei. The Whitebeard pirates protect Fishman Island from slavers who liked to kidnap and sell fishmen and mermaids better than the marines do. Jinbei and Ace were pretty good friends and when the shichibukai were all ordered to report to Marineford to help fight against Whitebeard, Jinbei completely refused and went on a rage. He was thrown in the same cell as Ace and helped Crocodile and Luffy break out of Impel Down to come rescue Ace. When Ace first wanted to meet Whitebeard (to challenge/kill him) Jinbei stopped him and said he had to get through him first. They fought for 5 days solid without any breaks. In Impel Down, Ace asked Jinbei to look after Luffy if anything should happen to Ace. While Jinbei originally refused because he doesn't like most humans and only makes exceptions for Whitebeard's crew, he later remembers this request and does his best to help protect Luffy against Aikanu.
- Oars Jr. Even bigger than the giants, Oars Jr. is freaking huge. Ace adored him and wove him a straw hat despite how many times he kept burning the straw being made of fire (this taught Ace a lot more self-control) and the size the hat had to be in order to fit. Because of the hat Oars said he could stay out in the rain, sun or snow and weather through all weather. At Ace's execution in Marineford, Oars ran straight for Ace recklessly and got his leg cut off by Doflamingo and has almost died at least 3 times. *wibbles* I have NO clue if he'll live so my Ace will get all "Oars is awesome!!" and then sad-quiet/traumatized. He tries to share good memories either way.
- Shanks. Ace met Shanks after he'd already been a pirate himself and bonded over Luffy. They became close enough that Shanks risked war with another pirate emperor in order to tell Whitebeard to call Ace back. (He didn't know that Ace had taken off to hunt Blackbeard even though Whitebeard told him not to.) He knows Blackbeard is far more powerful than he acts and that he was always waiting in Whitebeard's shadow but had a lot more ambition than that.
- Aikanu. ---- Super spoilers ------ As Luffy and Ace were fleeing Marineford, Aikanu insulted Whitebeard and Ace stopped running away in order to fight Aikanu. However, the admiral's magma is hotter than Ace's fire and he actually burned and killed Ace, punching him through the middle. Though Ace died happy (having been shown just how loved he was by all the people trying to rescue him) he's not going to be the biggest Aikanu fan out there.
~Permissions~
- Threadhopping with this character - yes/no/other?: Yes. Always welcome. But be mindful of other people's journals if they don't like it. You're also always welcome to threadjump in Ace's journal as well and he'll "politely" not read it if he feels it's clear that it's meant to be between those two. This is also why he threadjumps other people less than my other two characters.
- Subject line comments: Err yeah, always okay in my journal/with me and preferred if you're going to do more than 1 comment/explain something ooc. If I do it too much to you, slap me as a reminder
- Hugging this character?: Yes. He's pretty loose about it in general and won't think much of it.
- Giving this character a kiss?: Go ahead!
- Badtouching: Yeah that's fine, but he is loyal, so when he's in a relationship he doesn't want to mess that up.
- Lovers:
mmmjustice in
theBlackbpriests.
- Punching this character (provided they can fight back): Yes. But Ace punches back.
- Easiest way to get on his good side: Be easy-going/fun, say you get along with Luffy, or that you really respect and admire Whitebeard. It's easy to be on Ace's good side, everyone starts closer to "friend" zone than anything else.
- Easiest way to get on his bad side: Insult Whitebeard. That's also why he died.
- Can I hack his journal?: Yes. With ease.
- Can he hack my journal?: No. He's too polite and doesn't know how.
- Fourth Wall Breakage: Yes but push him too far and he'll just break on you with rage.
- Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/etc?: Yes. Just let me know what you have in mind/how long/etc. The zanier, the more I'll love it. You can also easily dare him to do weird crap.
- Maim/Murder/Death: Yes, but discuss it with me and expect repercussions from loved ones.
- Blood: Yeah that's fine.
Thank-you Vil for questions survey!
