so i missed a few weeks. i've been busy.
gather 'round, boys and girls, the word for today is sanguinolency.
sanguinolency is a noun describing the quality (and a quality it is) of being sanguinolent or bloody!
that which is sanguinolent is of or regarding blood: stained, streaked, smeared, spattered, sprayed, or soaked in it, containing it, or the color of it. more importantly, it is bloodthirsty, merciless, and cruel!
sanguinolency also describes bloodlust and an addiction to bloodshed.
sadly, it is of purest latin.
in closing, a quote:
agaynst bleedinge of the nose... take the mosse of a dead mans cranium,..and applye that to the sanguinolent patient his nose, and it helpeth. [Gabelhouer's Boock of physicke, translated 1599]
i don't entirely know what is going on here, but it certainly makes you grateful for modern medicine, doesn't it?
in other news, the book for today is
the complete idiot's guide to prayer by mark galli. at least he comes out and says it.
