Please don't stop the music...

Aug 19, 2008 16:20

First of all, sorry this is so late. I really wanted to write this out the morning after the concert but I had to get back to campus to work on the newspaper - which is already completely owning my soul x_x

ALSO, before I go into my Idol flailage, I have to give a HUGE, MASSIVE thank you to my straight wife hopelessfangirl who got me some paid LJ time! <333 Thanks again, my lovely!! *skips off to bask in icons*

OKAY. TIME FOR THE TALE OF MY EPIC IDOL EXPERIENCE (WITH VISUALS)

So, I'll spare you all of the boring details, but let's just say that 4 hours on your feet in the humidity with no food or water isn't exactly the pinnacle of fun ;) But HOLY crap it was so worth it. I'm so glad I happened upon that post on David-Cook.org explaining how they all came out before their rehearsals at each tour stop. I actually had to be even more of a dork and go on my own since my mom agreed to coming to the concert, but she wasn't doing the whole waiting for hours on end thing. LOL, I really can't blame her. It's slightly hardcore ;)

ANYWAY, finally finally we see security starting to trickle out and THEN Cook and Carly came out!

Of course, everyone wanted Cook's attention, but I think must have had press or something to do because he had to make his way through the fan line pretty quickly. But even though he seemed to be in a hurry, he STILL made sure everyone got their stuff signed <3

Carly made her way to me first. She's absolutely stunning!

Cook came by in such a blur I'm not even sure what I said to him. Probably just thanking him for coming out and wishing him good luck on the show.

I actually do have a bit of a story to go along with my Cookie encounter, however. So he's standing like IN FRONT OF MY FACE and oh hi, I'm having my FIVE SECOND MOMENT WITH DAVID COOK KTHNX. And this whore bag behind me (who didn't stake out a place at the railing at 10:15, thank you very much) shoves some piece of paper over my head and in front of Cook's face so there is like MATERIAL OBSTRUCTION OF MY COOK VIEW. So anyway, without even looking up he goes "Please don't put stuff in our faces. We'll get to you." And I was like Oh YES you just did that, David Cook. And yet he was still sweet. Seriously, I hope he maintains his sweet natured temperament dealing with all of the freakin' rabid creeper fans o_O

Anyway, then Carly and Cook went back in and it wasn't long before Archie and Jason came out! They must not have had anywhere to be because they both spent AGES with the fans. This was also conducive to MUCH MUCH PICTURE TAKING. Jason came by me first...

Damn, but that boy is pretty. Honestly, his eyes and smile and skin are just kind of ridiculous. My love for him has been totally rekindled. I was getting kind of irritated with him as the weeks went on during Idol since he seemed to act kind of irritated by the whole experience. But I think now that the pressure of the competition is off he's had an entire attitude change because he was SO sweet and gracious as he was talking to fans.

EEEEE!!! \o/

Archie really took his time with everyone <333, so while we were waiting for him to make his way down to us, Kristy Lee came by.

Like everyone else, she made sure to stop by everyone, but she kind of brushed people off *shrugs* It was nice to get her autograph, I suppose.

This was all unimportant, however, because ARCHIE WAS COMINGGGGG!!!

Closer...

CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW CLOSE HE IS?!

HOW IS HE THAT BEAUTIFUL?? I DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND! HE'S LIKE AN ANGELIC LITTLE BEACON OF HAPPINESS.

So anyway, the little girl standing next to me was probably in about middle school and the poor thing just dissolved into tears as soon as Archie came out, LOL. So I made sure that he took a picture with her first, but then he started walking away and I was all O_O "Would you mind taking a picture with me, too?" I kind of messed up his flow, LOL I hope he wasn't irritated.

OH MY DEAR. SWEET. LORD. *IS DEAD*

The mom of the girl beside me actually took that picture and I gave her my email address, and I was SO nervous that she'd forget to send it to me and there'd be some picture of me and Archie floating around on some random camera. But she sent it yesterday! \o/ Another person standing around me actually happened to get another picture of me while I was talking to Jason and getting my program signed. I'm still waiting on that one, but I won't be too terribly torn up if I don't get it since I managed to get a posed one with him :)

So Archie was getting toward the end of the fan line and then Chikezie came out! I was hoping he would after all of the things I heard about fans being obnoxious and dismissing him and asking him to go get the Davids o_O People baffle me. Anyway, I was glad that this group at least showed him a lot of love. He was such a sweet guy. He picked up this little kid to take a picture with him, it was too cute.

Chikezie was still making his way down the line and then PAPA JOHNS CAME OUT!!

*stares* Honestly, between the Davids, Jason, and MJ - my retinas were burning from all the pretty.

Anyway, Michael got to spend a long time in the fan line too. People were asking for pictures, but he wanted to make his way through and make sure everyone got autographs first. Such a sweetheart. He was joking around and being a goofball the whole time.

Once he got to the end of the line, he started making his way back to take pictures. He was seriously so patient and sweet - even when women were gross and all hanging on him. Ugh. So he gets back closer to me again and then all of a sudden these ASS HAT ladies start cutting ahead of me, and I'm too much of a pushover to be like "GET OUTTA MY WAY, WHORE". So after like THREE people cut in front of me for pictures, someone told Michael he had to go inside. So literally THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME was his last picture. Grr....... >_< *sigh* Oh well, at least I got to talk to him a bit and I got some really nice pictures of him. Not his fault that people freaking SUCK.

Brooke was the last one to come out (not sure why Syesha and Ramiele didn't come outside). She must have had press or something because she had to fly through the line like Cook.

She was very sweet, I could tell that she felt bad that she had to say no to people who wanted pictures. She is so TINY. Honestly, she's going to blow away O_O

So I was able to get my program signed by 8 out of 10 of them - including my four boys - so I really couldn't have asked for more. Well...maybe pictures with Cook and Michael... ;)

I ended up heading back home a little after 4pm. LOL I can't believe I was there for 6 hours. Ok, actually I can b/c I'm insane like that, but still!

So I got home and grabbed a quick bite to eat and drove BACK downtown, this time with my mom, for the CONCERT! LOL I was already on such a ridiculous fandom rush, and I still had the main event!

Luckily, I didn't have any trouble getting my mom's camera past security. I think they only care if you have those ginormous ones with the detachable lenses. We were seated on the floor on row AA (the first row of the second cycle of the alphabet) and even though I'm really short, I was still able to peak through holes of people and have a good view.

The concert was SO. GOOD. Honestly, I enjoyed everyone! I've found that at past Idol concerts as well. Your imperfections are hidden with great acoustics and a screaming arena, but I also think they're just performing better overall with the stress of the competition off of them.

They sang in the order they were voted off, so Chikezie went first...

He sang "I Believe to My Soul" by Donny Hathaway, "Caught Up" by Usher, and "So High" by John Legend. I think he got voted off too soon. I think he certainly deserved to stay at least one or two more weeks than he did.

Next was Ramiele...

Ok seriously, the pictures that camera manages to take kind of blow my mind. We weren't even within the first ten rows or anything!! She sang "I Want You Back" by The Jackson Five, "Love Will Lead You Back" by Taylor Dayne, and "If I Never See Your Face Again" by Maroon 5, which made me really happy. Love me some Maroon 5.

As she was finishing up I realized that it was already time for MICHAEL \o/

It is absolutely criminal that he got voted off so early. He is SUCH a showman. I can't wait to see what happens with his career. He sang "We Will Rock You"/"We Are the Champions" by Queen (!!!), "It's All Wrong But It's All Right" by Dolly Parton (<333), and "Dream On" by Aerosmith. Before the latter, he said...

MJ: Well, this is the song that got me kicked off the show.
Audience: Boooooo!
MJ: I know, right!
Audience: *FLAIL*
MJ: Randy Jackson didn't like it, but he's not here and I don't care!

And from then he proceeds to KICK ASS LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS. GUH.

There was a bit of a lull as it went from Michael to Kristy Lee.

LOL poor thing, you get the feeling there aren't exactly all that many people there to see her. The audience was receptive, though. And while it isn't exactly my favorite kind of music, she sounded much better live than she did on the show. I think she'll probably end up with a modest country career a la Kellie Pickler. She sang "Squeezin' the Love Outta You" by Carolyn Dawn Johnson, "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood (umm, that's the S2 song kthnx), and "Cowgirls" by Kerry Harvick.

Up next was Carly!! DAMN that girl is amazing!

I LOVE how well that second one turned out. Her entire set was fabulous. She did "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence, "Crazy on You" by Heart, and "I Drove All Night" by Celine Dion.

I thought they'd go to intermission after Carly, but I guess they wanted to have six of the top 10 go first since the Davids sing a few extra songs in the second half. So Brooke came on next.

I loved the songs she picked for her set: "Let It Be" by The Beatles (which she played at the piano), "1234" by Feist, and "Yellow" by Coldplay. She kind of grated on my nerves during the show, but I actually really enjoyed her live. I think she's at her best when she can just kind of do her own thing and accompany herself singing mellow music.

Before intermission, the six who had already gone came out and sang U2's "Pride in the Name of Love" in honor of Idol Gives Back.

Girls first...

And then Michael and Carly got to sing a bit together! I hope they end up recording an actual single together. Their voices blend so well.

After the group song, it was time for intermission. And the first one back after the break was Jason! He had his little ukelele for "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

And then he switched to guitar for "Crazy" by Gnarles Barkley and "Daydream."

His set was AMAZING. Like Brooke, I think he just needs to stick to his genre. I don't think he did well with all of those styles out of his comfort zone on the show. He sure sounded fantastic on those three songs.

Up next was Syesha.

Quite the outfit, huh? LOL. She also sang three songs that I love: "Umbrella" (come on, you know you love it too!), "If I Ain't Got You," and "Listen" from Dreamgirls. "Listen" sort of blew my mind a little bit. She just BELTED that song. I think there was a bit of jawdropping going on.

Okay...as much as I loved everything up to this point, I was about to implode with joy since up next was ARCHIIIIIIIEEEEE!!!

He rose out of the stage with a piano singing "Angels" and it was EPIC.

HONESTLY, that boy and what he does to my heart <33

Sing it, Archie! For the rest of his set he sang "Apologize" (without lead from OneRepublic destroying it like in the finale), "Stand By Me," and Josh Groban's "When You Say You Love Me." I wonder if there was some kind of copyright issue keeping him from singing "Crush." Hmm. Anyway, he sounded absolutely incredible, as usual. I'm SO excited to hear a full album of his.

Do you know who else I need an album from?

DAVID FREAKING COOK *FLAIL*

Umm hi, HANDS O_O

Mmm, sexy wail of doom. <3

He sang "Hello," "Time of My Life," "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing," "My Hero" (which I need to find a good mp3 of because GUH), and "Billie Jean." All of these were, of course, epic in their levels of awesome. I can't wait for him to tour solo. SO good.

After Cook it was time for "Please Don't Stop the Music" with everyone, and it was just so high-energy and fun! It was pretty difficult to get pictures during the song since everyone was up and screaming...including me ;) But I did find THIS little gem...

ROTFL <333 Credit for this goes to apathyxurgency who has been making an absolutely INSANE compilation of all of the Mavid dances from the tour.

*SNORT* I am SO glad we got our Mavid dance. I actually saw the girls in the fan line give the umbrella to MJ. I'm sure the wheels in his head were turning immediately because as soon as he got it he started skipping around with it LOL

But yes, it was an absolutely AMAZING day. I seriously had so much fun I didn't even know what to do with myself. *happy sigh* I'm so thankful that things worked out so well.

GOODNESS. That was a lot. LOL, well I hope you enjoyed the tale of my Idol adventure. I tried my best to keep the rambling to a minimum... ;)

By the way, I have zillions more pictures, so please feel free to take a look at my photobucket album. They didn't upload in order, so they're kinda scattered :\ but at least they're still grouped by person for the most part.

WHEW, ok. And now, because I'm still riding my Idol high, I'm going to offer up a meme of sorts.

If you could create a dream top 12 with any contestants from past seasons of Idol, what would it be?

LOL warning, mine includes lots of pretty boys ;)
