When Suddenly I Feel So Small...But Never Helpless

London. Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on when someone other than the IRA bombs London? What were these people trying to achieve? These were purely civilian targets. There is no symbolism involved (that I know of), merely a cruel attempt to disrupt the G-8 summit. 700 injured, more than 30 killed. Some disruption. And in front of my computer an ocean away, what can I do about it? Which, I suppose, is part of the point.

In other (significantly inferior sounding) new, I finally finished The Cider House Rules. My evaluation: If you've never read it, read it. It's incredible. The characters are so well-drawn and multi-dimentional that you actually care about what happens to them, which is so rare in books nowadays. Homer Wells is indeed a hero, and that's all I've got to say about it, because you're all going to go read it, and we can discuss it when you are finished.
