Thoughts on various scifi things

Okay, so last night I got  my new set of Netflix in. I watched the entire third season of Red Dwarf, and it was great, as usual.

There was one episode that I particularly liked, though. It was  called "Polymorph", and I swear that's where they got the idea for the Farscape episode "Twice Shy" from season 4. Some things were changed around, of course, but the main plot was the same.

In the Red Dwarf ep, a mysterious creature boards the ship, and turns into various things in order to make the crew feel some kind of negative emotion, and then steals that from them. This would include becoming a sausage, Dave's boxers, an attractive female, and Rimmer's mom, amongst other things. It ends up being killed entirely by accident, and everyone feels better in the end. It was funny seeing Dave being choked by the sausage, and Cat looking like he hadn't bathed in weeks. LOL. I only wish that the creature had attacked Holly, too.

Whereas in the Farscape ep, everyone was completely aware that there was someone on board. The spider-alien-chick hightened everyone's most prominent attribute and stole that, such as Chiana's sex drive, D'argo's anger, John's optimism, Rygel's greed, etc. After that, there was the same sort of contrast as was in R.D. , where the characters are acting rather unlike themselves, in fact completely opposite. Rygel is ready to give her whatever she wants, John is ready to just go die in a corner and give up, Aeryn is crying all over the place and generally just breaking down. John ends up saving the day mostly, and everyone is back to normal again! Yay!

I suppose that the writers must have known that they were taking from something else. It doesn't bother me, though. I have no bad feelings about either episode. In fact, I like that I managed to find this little piece of something that ties them together. It makes me like both shows even more.

There was also an episode of Star Trek: TNG (I think) that I saw once that seemed to be the place where they got the idea for Leviathans. It was really simple, but the idea was generally the same. There was a large living ship, and it was kinda fleshy on the inside, and it grew to accomidate anyone who was living on it. It could only really communicate with others through another being who became connected to it in some way. If anyone knows what that episode was called, I'd love to know so that I can look for it again.

Oh, and my new favorite Crack!Pairing is Jack(Lost)/Apollo(BSG). Yay FandomSecrets for introducing it to me via a secret in one of the posts. *happy dance*
