*Jared*
He tucked the small package into a pocket inside his cloak and then pulled the hood up over his head. With the stub of chalk he drew the outline of a door and then a knob. He tapped his wand on the knob and then tugged the door open and stepped into the girl's room.
"Dru." He said in a hushed whisper. "It's me, Jared."
*Dru*
She rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed, wearing a white flannel and lace nightgown.
"Jared? Wha?" she asked sleepily, teddy bear tucked under her arm.
*Jared*
He knelt at the side of her bed, light from the open chalk door illuminating the room slightly.
"Shhh. Didn't want to bother anyone. Wasn't sure your brother would be too happy to see me."
*Dru*
"He's asleep.. or.. " she trailed off in a giggle of kissy noises as she leaned over and turned the bedside lamp on.
"Is something wrong?"
*Jared*
He smiled and shook his head.
"No, definitely not... Just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas and give you your present."
*Dru*
"A present?" she asked, her face brightening.
"You didn't need to give me a present. "
*Jared*
He nodded.
"I know I didn't need to. But I wanted to."
He withdrew the long slim box from his pocket and handed it to her.
*Dru*
She took the box, the teddy bear falling to her side forgotten for the moment.
"Can I open it now? Or do I have to wait till tomorrow?"
*Jared*
"I think you should open it now, I want to see your reaction."
He looked around, listening a bit.
"But hurry, I'm not sure how long I can remain undetected by the wards around the manor."
*Dru*
She ripped open the wrapping paper, opening the box and gasping.
"Jared, you shouldn't have! It's wonderful and beautiful!" she said, her grin a mile wide.
*Jared*
He grinned.
"Not quite Olivander's but the best I could get in the States. You've got to promise me you'll be careful though. You can't get caught with it.. and the Ministry is being much stricter about underaged magic."
*Dru*
"I'll be careful, don't worry. I won't let anyone see it," she said with a grin as she threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly.
*Jared*
He hugged her back.
" I knew how much you wanted one... and well, we can accelerate your training a bit as long as can keep your wand a big secret."
*Dru*
"Oh, thank you thank you thank you!" she babbled, hugging him tightly before finally pulling back .
"I have a present for you too.." she said with an impish grin.
*Jared*
He looked at her.
"Really? Well that's very thoughtful of you. What is it?"
*Dru*
She grinned and scampered out of bed, tiptoeing to a box in the corner. Picking something up from there, she carried it back in the crook of her arm before presenting the small tabby winged kitten to Jared.
*Jared*
He looked bemused.
"Is that a kitten? A winged kitten? Never seen one of these before. It's brilliant, I will treasure it always."
: *Dru*
"Just don't let it die, alright?" she said sternly with her hands on her hips.
"That ones a boy. I think."
: *Jared*
He laughed.
"I certainly won't let it die... A boy, eh? I'll have to think of a good name."
: *Dru*
"Good. Do you like him?"
*Jared*
He held up the kitten.
"He's lovely. I like it a lot, a very thoughtful gift."
*Dru*
She smiled.
"Good, I'm glad. I didn't really know what to get you.." she said shyly.
*Jared*
He laughed.
"It's all right. Not everyone is as easy to shop for as you."
*Dru*
She took the wand out and swished it, watching as sparkles flew from the tip before reverently putting it away and tucking it under her pillow.
"It's wonderful, Jared," she said with a smile.
"Oh! Mom says she's getting me karate lessons for Christmas! I start when we go back to Roswell."
*Jared*
He smiled and nodded, cradling the cat.
"Good, self defence and physical fitness, very good."
*Dru*
She smiled.
"I just have to not get into fight at schools," she admitted.
"And I was one of the toy soldiers in the nutcracker, this year."
*Jared*
He nodded.
"That's right, self-defence isn't a licence to attack however you like."
He tilted his head.
"Nutcracker? Oh, right, the big Christmas musical."
: *Dru*
"Well, ballet. There's no singing," she said with a giggle.
"But I got to dance around like a wind up toy soldier. It was fun. But it'd be cooler if wizard's did it."
*Jared*
He nodded.
"Probably. Most things are."
*Dru*
She giggled and stifled a yawn, resting her head on Jared's shoulder.
"Mmm.. I think you're right.."
*Jared*
He smiled and hugged her again.
"I should get going, but we'll talk again after the holidays, maybe even teach you a spell or two."
*Dru*
She hugged him tightly.
"Okay. Happy Christmas, Jared..." she said sleepily.
