Who: Su, Anthony
What: A nice dinner date goes sour.
When: Friday, November 14th, evening
Where: an unused classroom
*Anthony*
He waited outside Binns' classroom, running a hand nervously thorugh his hair, not sure if Su would like what he had in store. Seeing her come out, he smiled.
"Su! Got plans?" he asked nervously.
*Su*
She smiled when she saw Anthony, though she hesitated for a moment, uncertain as to whether it was really him.
"Shui," she greeted, going up to him and kissing him on the cheek. "Nice tae see yui..."
*Anthony*
He blushed slightly.
"Nice to see you too..." he said with a smile.
"So, you didn't answer my question."
*Su*
"Nae, Ah've nae got any plans, besides a date with mah books, but that can be postponed," she said, hefting her bookbag higher on her shoulder.
She offered him a smile.
*Anthony*
"Want me to carry that?" he asked with a smile, running his hand through his hair nervously.
"I thought you and I could spend some time together.."
*Su*
"Aye?" she asked, slowly letting her bag off her shoulder and handing it to him. "Thank yui..."
"We can, that'd be nice... Ah'd like tha'... "
She looked around. Everyone else had left the hallway. She turned her gaze on him.
"Yui an' mae... taegether." She smiled. "Slowly. Nice an' aisy."
*Anthony*
He grinned, never tiring of her accent.
"Good. THought we could use a break and everything.." he said with a smile.
*Su*
"Aye, it's been a bit o' a madhouse recently," she agreed as they started to walk upstairs.
"Where were yui thinkin'?"
*Anthony*
"That's a surprise..." he said with a small smile.
*Su*
Her stomach tumbled with excitement.
"Aye?" she asked, leaning against him gently as they walked. "Ah'm glad yui thought tae dui this taenight; Ah donnae ken when Ah'll get back fruim mah internship taemorrow."
*Anthony*
He smiled.
"As long as it's interesting, I doubt you'll notice the time," he teased.
*Su*
She blushed, but smiled.
"Aye, yui're probably right aboot tha'," she agreed.
*Anthony*
He nodded as he steered her down a corridor.
"Just trust me," he said with a nervous smile.
Getting to the door of a certain classroom, he turned to her.
"Close your eyes?" he asked.
*Su*
She closed her eyes obligingly, tingling a bit with anticipation.
*Anthony*
Taking her hand, he pushed open the door to the room, leading her inside. Waving his wand, the candle on the table lit up. Squeezing her hand, he whispered, "Open."
He bit his lip, gazing around the classroom where he'd set up a table with two chairs and a tablecloth. He'd put a candle and asked the houseelves to set it and to bring dinner.
"Is this okay?" he asked.
*Su*
She opened her eyes and gasped, then smiled, looking to Anthony happily.
"Oh, Shui... it's beautiful. It's moor than okay. Ah proper dinner date!"
*Anthony*
He smiled.
"Well, best as I can manage given the circumstances.." he said sheepishly.
*Su*
She blushed and looked very pleased.
"Aye, it's wonnerful," she said, walking over to one of the chairs. "Romantic."
She knew it was the real Anthony - the one who'd seduced her earlier that week wouldn't have bothered with all this...
*Anthony*
He went over and pulled the chair out for her.
"Hopefully the food's not too cold. I had the house elves bring us what they're serving in the Great Hall later..." he said nervoulsy.
*Su*
She sat down, smoothing down her skirt, looking over the food.
"It looks great," she said, smiling.
"What's th'occasion, then?"
*Anthony*
"Realizing that you and I haven't had a proper date.." he said with a smile as he over and sat down with a smile.
*Su*
She blushed happily.
"Aye? That's a guid raison, then," she said, biting her lip and smiling.
She bumped her foot against his, under the table*
*AnthonY*
He blushed slightly, tentatively nudging her foot with his in response.
"You alrigh? I mean about the whole thing?" he asked.
*Su*
She shook her head, but kept her foot against his.
"Nae," she said quietly, looking down. "Somethin's gone, an' Ah cannae get it back but... there's nothin' Ah can dui aboot it, an'... Ah donnae ken. Ah wish Ah unnerstood why someone was roonin' aroon', duin' these thin's tae paepul... it hurts, yui ken?"
She bit her lip.
*Anthony*
"I know..." he said quietly, remembering the masquerade and Padma, reaching out to squeeze her hand.
"I wish there was somehting more I could do... if I find out who did this, I'll kill him..."
*Su*
She squeezed his hand back, looking up at him with a slight smile.
"Nae need tae kill anyone," she said, smiling softly. "Jus'... kneecaps, or somethin'..." she joked.
*Anthony*
He chuckled.
"Just kneecaps then," he said with a forced smile.
*Su*
She squeezed his hand back.
"Aye, thank yui," she said, noting his forced smile, but unsure what to do about it.
"So... dinner?"
*Anthony*
"Right. Dinner..." he said with a smile.
"Sorry.. I've never really done this before..."
*Su*
"Nae've Ah," she reminded him gently, still smiling, then began cutting up her food, thankful for something to focus on.
*Anthony*
"So, what time's your internship tomorrow?" he asked, hoping she hadn't already told him.
*Su*
"Airly," she said, making a slight face. "Ah've got tae get in a bit airly tae get oriented, an' Ah've got thin's tae pick oop in Diagon, tae."
She took a bite of her food.
"Ah'm goin' tae be there all day, Ah think."
*Anthony*
He nodded.
"Gotcha. Well, you can come find me when you're done and tell me all about it.." he said with a smile.
*Su*
She blushed and smiled.
"Aye? Yui railly wan' tae hear all aboot tha dry an' tedious wuirk Ah'll be duin'?"
*Anthony*
"Of course. Why wouldn't I?" he asked with a smile.
*Su*
She smiled and shook her head.
"Nae a loot of paepul are innerested in what Ah'm duin'... it's nae tha most popular line o' wuirk. But if yui're willin' tae listen..."
*AnthonY*
"I want to know all about everything you do, everything you like..." he said with a smile.
*Su*
"Aye?" she asked, head tipping sideways, giving him a bit of a thoughtful look.
"Donnae ken if yui cuild know all aboot mae, even with a lifetime. But we can make a start at it, Ah suppose."
*Anthony*
"A start would be better than nothing," he said with a smile.
*Su*
"Aye," she agreed, taking another bite of her food.
"So... ask mae a question, then Ah'll ask one of yui... we can lairn a lot aboot a person tha' way..."
*Anthony*
He nodded as he ate some of his food.
"This may sound a bit... well, stupid, but reckon I don't even know your favorite color..."
*Su*
She shook her head, smiling.
"Ah look best in a deep blue," she said, "but Ah love red. How aboot yui?"
*Anthony*
"Always liked green," he said. "Don't wear it since it's a Slytherin colour."
*Su*
She smiled.
"Ah bet it'd look guid with yuir eyes," she said, blushing a little.
"So, what's yuir favourite class, then?"
*Anthony*
"Arithmacy," he said.
"Not too useful in what I'll end up doing probably, but I like it."
*Su*
"Oh, aye?"
She suddenly realised she didn't really know what he wanted to do.
"What are yui goin' tae probably end up duin', then? Arithmancy is useful in a lot of things..."
*Anthony*
"If I can get into the Auror Academy, I want to do that, even if my father doesn't like it. Otherwise I reckon I'll just go work for the Ministry .." he said with a shrug.
"What about you? Woudl you want to work at a museum?"
*Su*
She nodded, picking up a roll and buttering it.
"Aye," she said with a smile. "Ah like tae keep mah excitement tae tha thrillin' discovery of an ol' tome, or finally breakin' the code of spells on an object... it's nae all parchment and research, yui ken? There are paintin's tha' are so dangerous tha' it takes a constantly renewed set o' spells tae keep it contained. An' translatin' pieces, or studyin' old, forgotten languages of ancient magical cultures... it's all fascinatin' tae mae."
She took a bite of her bread. She couldn't imagine being quite so dispassionate about what one was going to do for the rest of one's life - or being so resigned about things.
*Anthony*
He smiled brightly, enjoying watching her get so animated about stuff.
"Are your parents alright with that?" he asked.
*Su*
She nodded.
"They're Muggle an' donnae railly unnerstand tha magical world. Wuirkin' in a museum is somethin' they can get, yui ken? An' they donnae have tae lie tae friends or family when paepul ask - they can say, 'Och, aye, Su. She wuirks at the British Museum, research position.' An' it's nae a problem."
*Anthnony*
He nodded.
"That's nice. My father, well, he expects me to follow in his footsteps and neither he nor my mother see why I wouldn't want to. But they thing that I'd be happy working in the Ministry's international relations, particularly with Israel."
*Su*
"But yui'd rather be an Auror," she added. "Why an auror?"
*Anthony*
"Because dark wizards don't deserve to live. They need to be eradicated," he said simply.
*Su*
Her brow pushed together slightly.
"An' yui think tha' killin' someone will help tha'? Isn't tha' just the other side of tha same coin?"
It wasn't that she necessarily believed it, but she did love a good debate - and playing devil's advocate could be fun,.
*Anthony*
"Do you want dark wizards to live? After all they've done?" he asked.
"Just think it's a duty that needs to be done. They all need to be eradicated. Them, the dark creatures.. Need to make Britain safe."
*Su*
"But what aboot prison? An'... Ah donnae think tha' all dark creatures are actually dark. What aboot Professor Lupin, durin' third year?"
*Anthony*
"He wasn't a bad teacher, but he ate a student last year, Su..." he said.
"Not safe to have him around children. Pity, but that's how it is."
*Su*
"Ah haird it was an acciden', a result of tha Callin'," she said, her appetite slowly disappearing.
"Ah liked his class... a lot."
"But yui think he shuild be killed?"
*Anthony*
"Safety comes at a price, Su.." he said simply, starting to feel like he was saying the wrong things.
*Su*
"But... tae kill off paepul? Ah donnae ken if tha price is wuirth it, Anthony..."
*Anthony*
"We're living in a war, Su. It's kill or be killed," he said simply.
*Su*
"Ah donnae agree with that," she replied simply.
"Ah donnae think tha wuirld is black-or-white. It's nae them-or-us. There are shades of gray."
*Anthony*
"Shades of gray? You're talking like a Hufflepuff. Big Ben and Parliament were nearly destroyed last week, Su. Innocent people keep dying. Seems the right thing to do is to put an end to that," he said simply.
"The way the world is right now, it's bad. And it's not something I want to bring children into."
*Su*
"Is there anythin' wrong with bein' a Hufflepuff?" she asked, slightly taken aback.
"Whui died last week? Ah didnae hear tha' a single person was killed. Injured, aye, but nae killed."
"Tha wuirld is hardly ever an ideal place; there are always wars an' dangers for any putative children. If paepul had stopped procreatin' at tha fuirst sign o' danger to their offspring, tha human race wuild never have survived!"
*Anthony*
"You think the Wireless was broadcasting the truth? Umbridge is controlling the Wireless, she's only saying what she wants people to hear. She's not letting the truth get out!" he said, not sure why he was getting so animated about this, but he knew he was right.
*Su*
"Ah donnae believe everythin' Ah hear on tha wireless," she shot back, dinner now forgotten entirely. "But Ah think tha' if someone had been killed tha' we'd've haird something aboot it from any of tha paepul that were there. Yui know, fuir someone whui wants tae wuirk fuir tha government, yui sure seem tae have issues with trustin' them."
*Anthony*
"I'd be working for Rufus Scrimgeour. I don't have issues with him. My issues are with Umbridge," he said a bit harsher than he intended.
*Su*
"But neither are tha government themselves," she pointed out. "Once they're gone, whui will yui be loyal tae, then? Shuildnae yui be loyal tae an idea, an' nae a person? Or else it's jus' like what You-Know-Who did with his Death Eaters."
*Anthony*
"I am loyal to an ideal!" he snapped. "I'm loyal to an ideal of a better world, a safe wizarding world, where parents can send their children to school without being worried if they're going to see them again! A world without Death Eaters, without dark creatures and werewolves, where no one has to worry about their safety!"
*Su*
Her anger flared.
"Donnae snap at mae!" she shot back. "Whui isnae dedicate tae tha idea of a better wuirld? Whui doesnae want tha'? But tha way yui want tae go aboot it? Killin' paepul off whui'se only crime is bein' born? Or bein' bit? Thin's outside their control?"
She glowered.
"Yui familiar with yuir Muggle history, Anthony? Ah reckon tha' since yui're Jewish, yui jus' might be. An' all Ah can say is tha' yui sound like someone whui suggested tha' the best way tae protect his government was tae kill off all tha Jews!"
*Anthony*
"What in Merlin's name are you on about? Jews don't kill innocents! Death Eater's do!" he snapped.
"I just wanted this to be a nice evening for just the two of us and now it's ruined!" he said as he got to his feet.
"Keep your shades of grey, Su. See where that lands you!" he said as he headed for the door.
*Su*
She pushed to her feet, equally angry.
"Ah wanted a nice evenin', tae!" she said, storming after him.
"An' yui had tae go on, talkin' aboot killin' paepul! Aboot killin' paepul we know!"
"Keep yuir black an' white, Anthony!" she snapped. "It's obviously made yui blind! Blind tae tha wuirld aroond yui!"
"This is over," she said, fists clenching. "It's all over."
*Anthony*
He raised an eyebrow at her.
"You're breaking up with me over politics?" he asked, not sure if he thought that was the dumbest thing he'd ever heard.
*Su*
"Aye," she said shortly. "There are deeper problems, but... Ah donnae ken if Ah can abide someone whuise wuirld view is so drastically different fruim mah own. An' Ah'm nae daft, Anthony, Ah ken yui're usin' mae tae distract yuirself fruim Padma."
She shifted, clearly upset.
"Yui donnae railly care aboot mae."
*Anthony*
"What bollocks are you on about now? Of course I care about you. If you were just a distraction, I would have just shagged you the first night and been done with it," he said, looking at her like she'd grown a second head.
*Su*
Her arms crossed in front of her.
"Nae, Ah donnae think yui wuild have," she said. "Yui'd have stopped, because yui can be a gentleman. But Ah'm startin' tae think it's jus' habit fuir yui, an' nae whui yui actually are. Ah donnae like what Ah've haird yui say taenight - an donnae look at mae tha' way, like Ah've just been hexed tae grow sprouts outta mah ears! Yui've been talkin' aboot killin' paepul - an' paepul we ken, Anthony, an' ideals Ah cannae agree with..."
*Anthony*
"Well, if you can agree with ideals such as those of the Death Eaters, then maybe this should be over.." he snapped as he turned on his heel and headed out the door.
*Su*
"Yui're tha one with ideals like theirs!" she protested at his back. "But yui're right, maybe this should be over!"
